I've thought about a Pokemon based spin off fairly extensively...I think it could work really well and I would love to see it happen.

It wouldn't have items be the same but it would have customizable specials, stages more similar to the anime, and the health system would be altered, but it could work!

It would of course have a (slightly simplified) Pokemon world to explore and whatnot...the fights wouldn't be everything

Not sure, but i think SSB does it better for me.

But a Skylanders/Disney Infinity type of game, with the pokemons fighting their way to the bosses, could do it better.

Would be a great name for a pokemon version of Smash.  I mean think of all the single mothers that have sent their 10 year old kids off into the world to fight thousands of dangerous pokemon.  They need to be held accountable.  Put all those mothers in a ring and have them smash it out.

More or Less. From what i saw, there are some pretty big differences. 

Every stage on Poke Rumble U is an arena with the same format, each pokemon has only one attack, the animations are years behind ans the story is trash.

 

I could be wrong at something, since i never really played it, but this was what i got from gameplay videos.
