Forums - Politics Discussion - Vice: Is the DOJ forcing banks to close porn stars' accounts?

^Well, that's a pretty f*cked up system.

And a very retarded move if the 10 billion revenue the porn industry made in 2009 that I found with a quick search is true. That people won't dissapear and the ones who leave it for another "decent" job will be replaced by others, they will just move to another place.

Oh, and thanks for the explanations.

Please excuse my bad English.

I'm all for social engineering (much as i love my porn), but it should certainly be done in an above-board fashion. This cloak-and-dagger stuff just opens the door to all kinds of abuse.

The door was opened long ago, this is the abuse.

Pornstars should start accepting bitcoin.

It's actually not a DOJ infringement. I've been in banking for 10 years and I can tell you that this silliness is nothing new. See, banks get certain customers and businesses that take out loans and investments with that bank and in the contracts it'll states that the bank can't open accounts for unscrupulous individuals (i.e. porn stars or pedophiles) or allow any businesses that deal in unsavory acts to open up within a certain distance of their business (i.e. massage parlor or strip club). It's funny that this comes up because a few weeks ago I had this discussion with 2 of my co-workers. They're both very religious (Mormon and Jehovah's Witness) and they said that they agreed with those dealings. I think it's bull!

The problem with bitcoin is cashing out, from what i've heard. Exchanges like Mt. Gox either have massive liquidity problems or are doing some very shady stuff on the side, or both. You can accept payment in Bitcoin if you are participating in a digital economy (so, say, the silk road people who sell drugs and use it to buy other silk-road services, potentially), but if you're trying to get bitcoin to pay for irl goods and services, it's much more difficult to function.

Well, it partially depends on where you live. Bitcoin ATMs are starting to show up in some places, and there's plenty of services out there that let you meet up with someone, and exchange cash for bitcoin. Those sorts of services are only useful in major cities, though... and still nowhere near as convenient.

There are other projects in the works, though. Such as a bitcoin debit card that works at any place that accepts mastercard.

It'll be far better when more things can be bought in bitcoin, which is slowly happening. It needs to be easier to convert between btc and fiat first, though, before that happens on a grand scale

"Instead, it’s a targeted effort to shut down as many as 30 separate industries by making it impossible for them to access banking services."

America making more jobs every day. I just don't get the logic here at all... do they want these people on benifits instead? or to drop out of the college courses they are doing? because that is how a lot of people are funding their education now sadly enough.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

Not to mention being a huge target for crime... since people know you'll have tons of cash in your house.
