So quarterly shipments:

Wii 0.16m
WiiU 0.31m
3DS 0.63m

Abysmal.

According to the main page there were more sales that quarter than shipments so there were too many consoles left on stores in Q3

YES,this is why Q4 is a little tricky, Ex: 3DS has sold much more in japan alone than Q4 shipment :)

Man 3.6 million projected for the next fiscal year for Wii U.

It's obvious the console is performing horribly but seeing Nintendo themselves admit this is a dead horse. Stunning. Honestly we haven't seen anything like this from one of the "big 3" in a long time.

Honestly it was bound to happen with Nintendo home consoles on a decline. The Wii just happened to be the casual magnet Nintendo needed to not drop off into obscurity.

Results are very poor indeed; however, for once, like I mentioned previously, Nintendo is being extremely conservative with their hardware and software sales at the exception of 3DS HW for FY15.

Furthermore, a one-off event of 270 million for R&D investments for Q4 does not paint a pretty picture either.

It's going to be a very interesting investor's meeting tomorrow.

Wat time is it? (EST if u dont mind!)

Between 9:00-9:30pm EST

3.6 million for an entire year? Makes me wonder what their expectations are from the upcoming Mario Kart? Surely they do not expect big numbers there, I guess they are hoping for some bundle sales, but are betting on the existing install base to carry the game sales.

As many pointed out, R&D costs point to a new console activity, let's hope it is something revolutionary to jolt the masses and have them start talking about Nintendo in a positive manner - and not just a controller reinvention .
Also, I must point out that I am positively surprised by 2.2M 2DS consoles, I didn't expect it to be that popular...

Am I reading it right, did they spend ~707 million on R&D expenses for this whole FY?

And ~527 million on R&D last year, and a projected ~562 million next year?

What accounts for the spike in R&D expenses this fiscal year?

Nintendo will be in serious trouble if QOL doesn't take off.

Yup you are correct; usually expenses revolving software & hardware developments, especially new hardware (QOL)

I honestly wonder if Zelda is being moved to a launch title for their next console.

Holy crap those are some terrible 3DS and Wii U shipment numbers for the last quarter.

2DS really seems like a dud, I don't think it helped Nintendo much at all.
