Why are some of you doubting this? Costs of electronics outside of US, Europe and UK are usually higher.

That's overkill. I don't think it would be that much.
I mean that price is more expensive than the imports we have here in the Philippines. If that's the case then they are better of buying from Hong Kong then.

I think there is no difference between offering the X1 for $500 or $800 in China, because the middle class won't be able to afford it even at $500, while (video console fans of) the higher class would still buy it at $800 or more.
Going cheaper makes no sense if you don't expect to broaden your market by a lot with that move.

Your mistake is that different products are taxed in different %.
Brazil for example.
Mobile Phones: 39%
Videogames: 72%
PC Games: 33%
I'm only giving some examples because I don't know how it is the tax system in China but in Brazil videogames are taxed like alchool, cigars and guns... so you need to see how is the tax for videogames in China, not phones.
Why are people surprised by this? US has REALLY good prices. That and given the fact that we're talking about China, it's not surprise the price for an xbox one is ludicrous. I'm betting the ps4 is going to have similar pricing in China.

Well, X1 is about 690$ in Sweden so it doesn't sound awful, but not good either. It will cater to the rich more than anything.

$820 isnt almost double...not sure what sort of maths you used to make that statement.
30% more would put the cost at about 650.
All im saying is 800 isnt that far fetched. Not saying its a certainty, this is a rumour after all
