Forums - Microsoft - Xbox One’s Price Springs Back Up to $500 Across the US: Discounts Were Only Temporary

Many retailers including Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, Target and Newegg slashed the price of the Xbox One by 50 dollars or more last month, making many erroneously think about an official but stealthy price drop.

Apparently that wasn’t the case, as all those retailers have now brought the price of the console back up to $499.99 including Titanfall bundles. If you wanted an Xbox One on the cheap, hopefully you already got one, because otherwise you may have missed the train.

This confirms what Wedbush Securities Senior Analyst Michael Pachter told us in a recent interview (HE WAS RIGHT? DOOM). The discounts were probably the result of the initiative of a few retailers that attempted to kickstart sales by taking a loss on the hardware with the perspective to sell more games and accessories, with others that followed in a price matching operation, and now prices are returning to their initial level.

Looking forward to see VGChartz US numbers that week

Even if it was pushed by Microsoft by promotionally discounting stock to retailers the sales of the Xbox One in the USA seem pretty good and ahead of PS4. It seems a market where the xbox one is doing well. They really need to focus on Europe especially the mainland where its failing miserably. Yes maybe xbox one sales will dip below ps4 now that the price has gone back up but in Europe xbox one sales are insignificant outside the UK to the point that stocking the console may not be realistic for many stores.

The NPD numbers of May will be very interesting.

Yikes. Sales will be really bad now.
The retailers taking the loss is certainly very interesting.

But there not ahead of PS4 in USA. Not in total or in monthly sales.

Say goodbye to the next NDP.

Only the truly dedicated gamer buys a console between April and October, so now is a good time to squeeze as much revenue out of those few buyers before officially dropping the price in early November.

I thought this already happened? Anyways it'll be interesting to see May's NPD.

I read somewhere that when a retailer slash the price and take loss on a console the company(Microsoft, nintendo or sony) pay some kind of fee or compensation so the retailer don't stop to buy their product.

Is this the case of Xone? Did microsoft take this loss so retailer could temporary slash the prices?
