Forums - Sony - More top flight titles & JRPGs coming to Vita - Shahid Ahmad

Sony Computer Entertainment Business Development Manager and proclaimed indie backerShahid Kamal Ahmad told PlayStation Universe (PSU) that we can expect to see more top flight titles on PlayStation Vita.

In an exclusive interview with PSU, Shahid was asked whether the future of Vita lies mainly in indie development or whether we’ll see more triple-A titles. Shahid first off defended the influx of indie games on Sony’s latest handheld platform, but then said that more big budget games are on their way and will be more frequent if Vita’s sales figures continue to rise.

“First thing is, indie games are getting better and better all the time,” said Shahid. “The second thing is there are more top flight titles coming. Football Manager recently came out which is absolutely amazing. It’s the first title as far as I’m aware that allows you to cross save your PC game and continue where you left off on Vita which is something people have dreamt off for a long time with Football Manager."

He also spoke about Japanese role-playing games, revealing that we can expect to see a lot more coming to Vita in the future.

“
Tales of Hearts is coming to the West, so there are a lot of JRPG fans that are absolutely delighted about Namco Bandai bringing that over, and there will be more,” he said.

Shahid then went to talk abouts low Vita sales in its first couple of years, but says things are picking up and if it continues to do so we can expect more mainstream developers to invest in big budget games.

“Frankly, we haven’t sold as many Vitas as we would have liked to have sold and the economic reality is that it costs a lot of money to make a triple-A game, and so they’re going to be few and far between until the numbers go up,” said Shahid.

“The good news is the numbers are going up. There’s a lot of love for the machine. It is selling. It is doing pretty well I would say, all things considered because the signs last year weren’t good and for us but numbers going up this year is really good news. With people like SEGA, people like Namco coming to the platform with some of their top flight games that’s a healthy sign as well, and I expect that to continue.”

key words here being "if Vita sales continue to rise". but they wont, so i dont expect big budget tittles to continue to come. heck, not even sony are making some for the vita. (other than japan studio)

Sorry, I don't believe this guy anymore, he overhypes stuff all the time.

Still, I'm absolutely loving my time with FFX and it's making my commute a joy. But I'm not very interested in any near future titles unfortunately.

Edit: Oh, and I was really pumped for Football Manager, but c'mon, by the time the Vita version came out the season was over! The hell? I had it in my Amazon preorder list for ages and then I just lost interest.

Don't wanna be a negative nancy but this tells me there probably aren't any AAA first party games being made for the vita at the moment. Was hoping for some positive news, but I guess he's suggesting we should be happy with what we're getting. Oh well, still tons of games I haven't played yet, but it's looking pretty grim at the moment.

This implies that they are currently on the rise though. So things must be looking up, and with the release of the 2000 and hopefully TV sales should continue to rise

Anyway good to hear more JRPGs are on the way, ales of Hearts R is just the beggining =D

Why cant you?? He delivers when he says he will. He is the reason we are getting Tales of Hearts R, even Bandai Namco acknowledged #jrpgvita as a reason.

I need more though. Maybe a Final Fantasy game (Not X/X-2)

Ah Shahid really needs to stop overhyping stuff, I love the enthusiasm but sometimes he is overboard with it.
