Forums - Sales - Gamespot: 3 Reasons the Xbox One May Struggle to Catch The PS4

Well one of the major reasons I chose xbox was because I assumed the US multiplayer population would be bigger on it. So I certainly agree with the point that people will gravitate to a large player base.

If you said that to me in early January I will agree and say the same... the US Multiplayer Population will be on Xbone but after played a lot of MP games in the last four months I'm changing my mind.

I didn't expect to face so many new users on PS4... a lot of user that I never saw on PS3 before... I even asked for some and they said they didn't have a PS3.

Xbone will be strong with US Multiplayer population but right now this population is sppliting bettween it and PS4... there a lot of new users that come from 360 to PS4.

PS4 demand is so strong not because the PS fan base but because it is catching users from others systems.

Yeah I baught mine in late december, and I was actually trying from november when it got released. both sytems were still selling out and hard to get a hold of so I couldn't see whats happening now coming.

I, like most people always got the feeling that ps4 would win world wide, but I never estimated such a compition for the US.

Wow... i have to completely disagree when he states that words speak louder than actions. Theres quite some spinning there.
But, then again its wrong when he considers advertisement to be actions, because they are communication actions aka words aswell. Also considering words as word of mouth is conceptually wrong.

So yeah... that last point is logically and conceptually a mess, though it is true what he is trying to say. The more people point the PS4 as the definitive winner, the less people will be inclined to get the X1. But, thats just a natural result of the situation. The path back up is always steeper and must be pave with actions. Those are the only ones that overthrow words.

I agree with him about the power of word of mouth! Remember the Hype train Neogaf created on february last year? They created a lot of hype and good word of mouth with their GIFs and JPEGs on internet. And then we had E3 and more gifs came up and spreads to 9gag and others mainstream meme sites.

People that didn't see E3 or Xbox one reveal already "knew" that PS4 "was better" than Xone.

They already "knew" that MS was "evil".

There is photos on neogaf of stores like walmart with hand-drawing posters saying: "Did you know Xbox one can play used games?"

The Hype train or Sony domination's word of mouth was so big that reached the casual and mainstream people.

Yes, i didnt say one action is enough to overthrow words. Thats why its a steep curve. And the action  do need the support of words aswell. But, without actions no words are enough.

In the case at hand, loss of trust, its especially true. Even because theres no garantee that MS ends up blocking used games later. They cant recover trust with words alone after having taken the action of placing it on the system unveil and e3. They need a generation of proof for their words to have value.

Reason #4  Gamesites posting Xbox One doom articles

While the Xbox One is curently selling well compaired to previeous gen. consoles, all of the Xbox One doom articles being posted by gaming websites such as us, and others will help keep the Xbox One in a firm second place as it will create a consistant negative image around the console, and prevent Microsoft from being able to undo the damage they did at the start of this gen.

It had a great launch but it is selling bad compared with previous gen. 360 even with supply issues sold more in CY Q1 than Xbone for example... CY Q2 seems to be the same 360 over Xbone again.

reasoning: x360 was the only fresh console on the market ( eventhough it had rrod ), it was available in more countries, and the XO has more competition and a higher pricepoint....

Microsoft was betting on "word of mouth" to push consoles in NA. It didn't work. In the end, I believe that the most important thing is goodwill with your audience, and Microsoft is making mistake after mistake with theirs.

Xbox One - PS4 - Wii U - PC

Solid article which sums up the current/upcoming situation pretty well.

Do you really think the others countries will boost Xbone sales by more than 10k per week?
