Will big time publishers start setting up kick starters for their games?

It's the way of the future. 2 13.33%

Possibly for some games 8 53.33%

No chance in hell! 5 33.33%

It seems everytime you come on this or another gaming site there is a new kick starter being announced. I think it's a safe way to make sure there is interest in a game before there is millions of dollars invested in it. This got me thinking if we will start to see big time publishers (Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, EA, ect.) start to use this formula for their games as well. With as risky as it is nowadays to make profitable games I can see this becoming more commonplace in the future. Of course there are games that are almost garunteed make money, but I can see this being used to create new ip's especially. Do you think we will see the big boys start to do this more and more, and would you have a problem with it? Let me know.

"Games are a trigger for adults to again become primitive, primal, as a way of thinking and remembering. An adult is a child who has more ethics and morals, that's all. When I am a child, creating, I am not creating a game. I am in the game. The game is not for children, it is for me. It is for an adult who still has a character of a child."

I don't pay for kickstarters cause I hate paying for anything where I don't know the final result of but what they should do a kickstarter for games that are not localized! So if say, Fatal Frame for the wiiU comes out in Japan and doesn't get localized, Nintendo should start a kickstarter for like 100k or whatever the cost is and get it localized... They don't lose anything cause we are paying for it and we don't lose anything cause we want the game to come!

I can definitely see it being used in certain circumstances, and I think localization would be a good way to implement it. I can also see it being used for fan wish lists games as well. If Nintendo announced a kick starter for Super Mario 64 2 I would invest in it twice.

If a big company tries to kickstart something their reputation will go downhill. They've got the money to fund it themselves, and if they don't have the money they shouldn't be starting such a project because it won't save a huge company.

I don't think big publishers will start using Kickstarter anytime soon. Kickstarter is going to continue to be used for smaller projects  ( Say Doug TenNapel wants to make Earthworm Jim 4, but he doesn't have the money. He can always rely on Kickstarter since EWJ is loved by a lot of people)!

If that leads to publishers releasing games that they wouldn't have otherwise I'm all for it.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Yeah you definitely don't want to see games like Zelda, Uncharted, or Halo asking for kick starter funding, but I can see it being used for certain circumstances.

Now I want another Earthworm Jim game!

Well, Doug TenNapel ( EWJ's creator) said in 2013 that he had some ideas in mind for a possible 4th EWJ game!
