It proves to sony that games will sell better, and more important, it proves to the 3rd party the same thing.

I invested on one because it has Infamous: Second Son and it will probably have the most third party support.

I think the latter is certainly true, i trust sony even if i don't know what games are coming.  i know they will.

just to address the top thought...
...the system itself is really what i needed and boy do i appreciate it.

  1. cross game chat
  2. automatically updating system updates
  3. automatically updating game updates
  4. play my game while the installation goes on in the backgroup
  5. play a game while it is downloading from psn
  6. suspend a game, watch some netflix, and come back to with with zero reloading time.
  7. log in with multiple psn profiles
  8. each game as a page that keeps me informed of availible DCL and which friends have played it.
  9. a library that shows me my entire library not just what is downloaded
  10. download games remotely
  11. play remotely (i have a vita even if no one else does)
  12. a psn store that doesn't lag the fuck out
  13. an OS that doesn't lag the fuck out
  14. a trophy page taht doesn't lag the fuck out and synchs in the background
  15. real names for my real friends
  16. that share button is kind of addictive
  17. watching gaming streams is also kind of addictive

I guess what i'm trying to say is the system is what is selling the system.  between automatically updating system/game updates, PlayGo game installation eleminating wait time, and the suspend mode i get HOURS of extra play time every week.  to just get what i want when i want it is worth the $400 imo.  but there are still gaming reasons to head on over to the next gen too.

Only thing I could add is that there are plenty of games to play for the system. I simply cannot understand how people keep saying they wish they had something to play on it. My PS4 is on all the time whether I'm playing, my wife is playing or my kids are playing. In fact my only concern s how ong my system will last LOL.

The exclusives are coming.

Yes, it works like that. If there is not enough early buyers , you're in a Wii U situation where no 3rd party wants to support it

It's the same for every product, if android smartphones had flopped, the android market store would be pretty much empty.

 

You dont develop software for something only few people own.

I just couldn't wait for a new system. It felt like forever since we had something new. Now I'm just sitting here waiting for the games.

Brand reputation + positive experience with previous PlayStation consoles. I remember Ken Kutaragi saying people would buy a PS3 even if it didn't have games because of its brand.

I had a lot of enjoyment with the PS1, PS2 and PS3, so that's why I'm buying a PS4 in the near future (around Batman release).

Yes everyone plays Call of Duty and Battlefield, way to generalize. I guess based on your flawed logic, Mario is even more casual, as more people have played that than the games you're trying to redicule here.

Given the great sales of Battlefield and COD on PS4, enormous compared to the userbase, he might not be generalising that much
