The Nintendo-only gamer population has certainly declined over the years, I think, which makes sense given how much third-party content Nintendo home consoles often miss. Nowadays, I think it would be more common to see a Nintendo console as a supplemental device, or as a primary device supplemented with something else. I believe that's the market Nintendo should target, which means keeping their hardware costs low and affordable. One of the Wii U's biggest problems is that it's weak AND expensive, making it tough for some to justify as either a primary or secondary console.
