Yo-kai Watch 2’s First Trailer Spooks Us With New Japanese Folklore Monsters

By Sato . April 15, 2014 . 12:12am

With Yo-kai Watch’popularity in Japan, it comes as no surprise that the release of its sequel, which will come in two versions, will be sooner than expected. Level-5 gives us a first look at Yo-kai Watch 2: Founder and Yo-kai Watch 2: Head with this trailer.

Everything from the town players explore to the battles and even the yokai will be powered up in Yo-kai Watch 2. This time, there will be more areas to explore, which will expand as you progress through the story.

In addition to the popular yokai Jibanyan and the 200 yokai of the first game, there will be plenty of new monsters based on Japanese folklore. Level-5 introduced the neck-stretching Rokurokubi (middle right), Kasa-obake (top left) that is said to be what old umbrellas transform into over time, and more.

The story in Yo-kai Watch 2 will also reveal the creation of the Yokai Watch, an item that allows users to see and communicate with the yokai. There will also be some sort of time slip going on, where you’ll be visiting Sakura New Town in the past.

Yo-kai Watch 2: Founder and Yo-kai Watch 2: Head will be released on July 10, 2014 for Nintendo 3DS.

Hmm. Does the first game already come over to the west? And with west I mean europe.

So far it seems to be a good made Pokemon clone. Could be wrong on it, can't really judge until I play it. And I would like to do so.

You, Ktay. You are the ultimate Youkai Watch fan on VGChartz.

With how popular this is becoming in Japan among children, it seriously has a chance to rival Pokemon.

Nintendo is also starting a campaign for new buyers of 3DS LL to get Youkai Watch (or Animal Crossing) for free with the purchase.

Now if only I could speak Japanese so I could play the game. Praying it gets localised though
