Forums - Sony - PS Vita doesn't deserve bad reputation

Which is the handheld's only real problem......image.

In actual execution the system gets more games than 3DS, they sell reasonably well to recoop dev cost, Games are highly praised by those who have actually played them, it is well designed piece of hardware, functions quick and swift, offers multiple pricing structures for all sorts of would be buyers(I think its ridiculous that many try to say it is too expensive when it has the power of a low grade tablet/game console but fits in a couat pocket all the while being less than half the price).

The lack of almost all of the large quality 3d action games is not an image problem but a software one.

Nexus 7 with 32GB is $229.  Android also got GTA:SA and a CoD last year too.

Well, I am an owner of a vita 3G model, and a wiiu.... I personally enjoy both, and think they both have really great games to play, when given a chance. That being said, they've both also earned their bad reputation. Reputations aren't given, they're earned. For good reason. Both lack a marketable library. Now remember, not a bad library, just not a library that sells systems.

Vita reputation is bad not cuz of its sales (which are doing well in japan now) but because to most its more of an indie machine and a ps4 accessory and has too many ports despite how many jrpgs the system has.

Sony not supporting it doesn't help out (yes i know there are a few games from sony 1st party studios but not really), but it def can build up the momentum from japan spike in sales with a couple good releases ( especially AAA ones). Europe its ok in but in US it needs alot of improvement.

I dont think sales are the bad reputation, cuz if it had those AAA titles and less ports it wouldn't have such a bad rep!

That said, vita tv is needed outside of japan, not the vita slim that will only come with one color and a port of a year old game

The article isn't about consumers.  It's about developers.  The headline misrepresents the article.

I agree to a certain extent.
I don´t think that Vita software numbers prove that Vita owners are avid consumers, or more than anyone else. Right now Vita has just one million-seller with 8 million devices sold. By comparison, the struggling WiiU, with 6 million devices sold, already has six million-sellers.
Of course there´s the bundles question - plenty of them on WiiU, not so much on Vita, but it´s a fact anyway. Vita´s owners tendency to buy games seems to vary among regions due to software availability. Japanese Vita owners buy a lot more than western owners, but they also have more games to choose.

As for the device itself, it´s a great piece of hardware with discrepant game libraries: excellent in Japan, not so great in the West. But still there´s plenty of good things to enjoy with a Vita. It seems to suffer form poor pricing and somewhat misleading marketing campaign, though, in the west.

The solution? Maybe a better price (or a cheaper model) and a marketing campaign that focus on its strenghts as a portable console, rather than a PS4 acessory or a smaller PS3, showing its exclusive offerings and showing the true personality of the product.

Citing VGC for your source on sales with Vita is pretty useless. We know that the majority of sales for Vita in the West are now digital. VGC is unable to track them.

It's a good system, but it suffers from bad marketing and higher total costs than 3DS. Also, Ninty being forced to a huge early price cut to save 3dS after a very bad start, at the same time succeeded saving it, but it put PSV in a difficult situation since before its launch itself. Sony couldn't afford to delay reaching PSV profitability, so it had to accept it remaining niche, and it wil have to keep on accepting it until PS4 definitive take-off, so until then PSV marketing will take a back seat except for what regards synergies with PS4.

For my tastes it's the best portable I ever tried, the only one I actually like and feel comfortable with, HW wise, I think I could buy it when it will be considerably cheaper than now (by then it will have a larger game library too, but even now I can find games for it that I like, Gravity Rush for example).

This just means you don't know about security. Saying openness and Vita together is so wrong. You can implement security with sd-cards, too, it doesn't automatically mean piracy on a system.

The thing is Sony uses their own memory solution which is

a) more expansive than similar or better (faster) sd-cards

b) can only be used with this system.

They have absolutely no advantage to users. Also proprietary solutions never prevented piracy. Look at PSP.

a)They are indeed more expensive, wich is a bother. But, you really dont need a huge one when Sony lets you transfer content between devices wirelessly, if you dont want to bother connecting the cable. Is it really such a fuss over 20 euros that will last you a generation? I really dont see it beeing any different than the PS2 and the PS1 was actually worse.

b) Why would you use them with anything else? Do you swap your 3DS card around devices?

PS1 and PS2 had this situation when other memory was not used widely otherwise. A standard sd card can be used in smartphones, digital cameras, computers, 3ds, hacked nintendo ds', camcorders... This is why I want them to be sd-cards. For example if I had a 16gb card and it'd be full, I could easily buy a bigger card for less money and use the old card in every other system that supports sd-cards. I can't with proprietary memory.

It's not an issue for you? Fine. Seems to be one for many others. It's not the only aspect why Vita sells bad but to me this is definitely a stopper.

I don't know if Vita owners are that great. Why don't great games like Tearaway or Gravity Rush have a higher attach rate? Hell even the highly anticipated Killzone game has dissappointing sales...

Game of the year 2017 so far:

5. Resident Evil VII
4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
3. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
2. Horizon Zero Dawn
1. Super Mario Odyssey

I don't hate the vita,it's just not for me. Not bid on handheld gaming in general. I'm still looking to get rid of my 3ds,because I haven't play it in several months.

I agree. If Sony would freaking support the thing more, it would flourish. I plan to buy one this year.

As long as it stays ahead of Wiiu, Vita is already a success. Love mine and it never gets dust
