No one wants to be seen with a handheld in public anymore, unless they're a kid. Period, no one I know in real life would play a handheld console while on a train or bus, it'd make them look like complete losers. Seriously, playing handhelds when you're older than 16 in public makes you look like a geek lol. Vita would work well for kids, if it wasn't so god damn expensive. The 3DS looks more kid friendly and whatnot and has more kid friendly games, and it's cheaper.

Are you serious with that? Let me tell you a story about a serious grown-up man go goes to work everyday, goes to eat at 2pm everyday with his buddys, all wearing their ties... This Man normally fires up his 3DS to play pokemon, while the rest of his coworkers are talking about work, sport, politics and all those grown-ups topics. What have I noticed from those times? People normally ask what game I am playing, how much did it cost since they are getting one for them, or for their children, or maybe like my mate how bought one to play pokemon with me while eating... Or maybe all the times when I am waiting for my almost-girlfriend in the foodcourt (she works in a Mall) and I turn on my 3DS for street passes or just to play something quickly.
Man grow some balls and do what you like without caring about what people say or think.
The reason why people are not buying dedicated games portables is because of that, the vita and 3ds are dedicated portable game consoles. I know the vita and 3ds can connect to the internet, facebook, twitter and such, but the average user does not know that.
Why would a parent buy a vita over a cheap smartphone with free games? Why grownups are not buying portables? I always thought free games and lack of time where the two main reasons, but if not being cool is the main reason, damn, I rather be a geek/nerd whatever anyday...
