Forums - Gaming - How much of the PS4 and One's Success is due to EA's Support?

A lot of it. 3rd party games are the biggest attraction on these consoles, and EA is certainly delivering the most 3rd party titles for both systems right now.

Can't help but feel like this thread is trying to discredit Sony and Microsoft for the success of their platforms, and is alleviating Nintendo of all blame for the failure of their platform.

Every gen is all about third-parties, even NES and SNES were beneficed by them.

reason those two "won" was their superior 3rd party support.

Yeah, and coincidentally at the same time they were losing 3rd party support, their consoles sold worse every time till gamecube. Wii was a fluke, which is being demostrated with wii u.

I'm not trying to say that. If anything, Microsoft in particular deserves credit for winning Titanfall as an exclusive despite the One being a theoretically less desirable platform for the game than the PS4 (due to the price and worse specs). But Sony also deserves credit for winning virtually every multiplatform title by making a powerful and dev-friendly platform.

My intention here was to show the power of a single publisher on two of the 8th gen consoles, and how even first Microsoft and Sony's studios are outmatched by this giant.

As for Nintendo not being to blame... I think Nintendo has made some big mistakes since circa late 2010, the Wii U's appproach to 3rd party development being one of them. The Wii U was too much of a compromise between Nintendo trying to be innovative and unique and their trying to appeal to the greater retail 3rd party scene. Whether Nintendo should have stuck with a cheaper console and used the Wii brand more intelligently or whether they should have gone head on against the competiition is another question entirely.

Do I think EA's treatment of Nintendo has been a bad deal for gamers, Nintendo, EA, and the gaming world as a whole? Yes, but that's not what this thread is about.

That's just how I interpreted the thread as a whole. I'm glad to see I was wrong.

That seems like a fair assessment.
