Forums - Microsoft - "I genuinely worry about the future of Microsoft," says Epic Games founder

Really nothing new, Valve was also unhappy with Windows 8 and it's closed nature. Just MS trying to force people into their ecosystem, backfired as usual.

I don't get why so many people have issues with W8/W8.1... Yea they fucked up but the OS is still great and its much faster than W7 in terms of boot and overall performance. As for the metro UI and lack of start menu, you can get a free start menu from third party and with W8.1, you can boot directly to desktop by skipping the MetroUI entirely... I don't mind the metro UI at all since it gives me really quick access to my email and others. I boot and check if I have any new email, calender events and messages asap without going to indivual sites to check them and its still faster boot even on mechanical hard drive

But oh well, Windows 9 Beta is suppose to be in April people and I know I will be looking at it but if you hate the Metro UI, then too bad cause according to the rumours, its gonna be here to stay

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

I look forward to one day being able to move away from Windows. Gaming is probably 75% of the reason I haven't been able to stick with Linux. Microsoft, in their effort to be Apple, is going to encourage more people to look for different solutions.

Did you read??? The closed nature of the OS was what he had issue with, But yes Windows 8 being forced on desktops when it was only good for touch screens was a moronic decisions by MS.

Agree, need more options, bloated Direct X and drives causes guys like carmack to say it was a big reason developing for PC was such a hassle.  Need another OS to get away from Windows and MS bloat.

VR gaming in todays format will explode with only one category... Loners, antisocial, geeky nerds which he is right are mostly that self-proclaimed PC master race... Anybody that game in a social/familly setting will not buy into it just yet not any more than 3d TV

now steam OS or Linux won't change much for MS even if every PC gamers in the world were massively switching abandoning completely MS OSs it wouldn't make a dent in MS domination.... It wouldn't even beat OSX that hasn't really made a dent in Windows domination on the PC/laptop front either btw...

the real question is more about mobile OS (non PC tablets and smartphones) and cloud solutions... PC OS is pretty much locked in for MS for the next decade even in case of complete failure which is hardly the case considering win8 has as more market shares than any version of OSX already...
so unless they launch 2 windows vista in a row after win8 nothing will change in the foreseeable future on that front outside of gaming...

He should be more concerned about the fact that no one seems to work at Epic anymore and all the major third parties have their own proprietary engines these days.

What study and experience do you have with VR to know morethen Tim sweeny at epic?

Come on I don't need study to tell you that no one will ever invest in more than one set of VR glasses like OR... 3d active glasses are already a failure not because it doesn't work but because of cost, lack of content and impracticality in a social setting... This is the biggest barrier to entry for VR...

but trust what you want, I'm saying it now it won't pick up in its current form outside of the usual niche market and that might be enough for the industry to prosper but it won't get mainstream YET.... AR/VR has more potential imo and even that will take time... Go check the XBN there is an interesting video on the subject a few pages back...

Sounds like your making a lot of assumptions on something just because you know little about it or how cool it really is. I will believe people who have used and are involved in it thanks.
