VR gaming in todays format will explode with only one category... Loners, antisocial, geeky nerds which he is right are mostly that self-proclaimed PC master race... Anybody that game in a social/familly setting will not buy into it just yet not any more than 3d TV
now steam OS or Linux won't change much for MS even if every PC gamers in the world were massively switching abandoning completely MS OSs it wouldn't make a dent in MS domination.... It wouldn't even beat OSX that hasn't really made a dent in Windows domination on the PC/laptop front either btw...
the real question is more about mobile OS (non PC tablets and smartphones) and cloud solutions... PC OS is pretty much locked in for MS for the next decade even in case of complete failure which is hardly the case considering win8 has as more market shares than any version of OSX already...
so unless they launch 2 windows vista in a row after win8 nothing will change in the foreseeable future on that front outside of gaming...
