Forums - Microsoft - Tales of Vesperia confirmed for 360 and US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nick Des Barres does work for Play Magazine so we'll likely be seeing a multi-page exclusive from them (with lots of pictures, possibly some new ones that have not been shown) in their next issue.

As for it coming to PS3 the guy said maybe but that's still just a maybe.  Microsoft has in the past made sure some games that are popular remain exclusive on their system, it's doubtful that this game would be one of those but it's not completely out of the question.

Nick Des Barres posts on NeoGAF, and he seems pretty confident that it will be ported to the ps3:

What a waste of money haha. PS3 or Wii or PSP or DS would have been a much better choice. Oh well Namco.

But that's the financial side. As a 360 owner, good news for a very limited library.

not really cause MS paid $$$ for the limited exclusivity. So whatever sales they miss on the 360 will be made up on the PS3 version.

This looks like to be a winner, and at least, that makes again one game that have high interest to me on XB360. It was back to zero after Trusty Bell was announced for PS3.

There are only 2 failures in the article : the thing looks not as beautiful as a Ghibli movie, not even as beautiful as the old Tonari no Totoro. I know hyperbole is common for XB360, but come on, these guys should get a grip on themselves.
The second failure is that Symphonia was sure as hell not one of the finest localisation job of all time, or they are all plain bad failures. I was devastated by the poor localisation job of Symphonia, which was VERY BAD. Can't talk about Abyss.

Anyway, like for Trusty Bell, I think this game is sent to die on XB360, like has been proven by the 2 other JRPG of the same kind launched before it. Like TB, it looks like a very good game, and is highly promising (Team Symphonia). Like for TB, I'm sad because I don't want a XB360, so I can only hope for a PS3 port, which is likely, but not guaranteed.

This game is in development since more than 2.5 years, so it must have cost them a lot, thus why I still have a chance for it to be ported to PS3. It would be very good, because I would not be stuck with modding the console to play the japanese version.
And it won't be released for the Wii, given their reasons for making it on the XB360 : they wanted at least this title to be HD. And only XB360 was out with usable dev kits when they started (remember they started this more than 2 years ago).

And I agree it looks like live anime in some parts, it looks very good, the only unknown is the storyline and the gameplay (except combat).

Anyway, I bet most japanese fans of Tales will be alienated by this decision, which is very unfortunate, but Namco devs couldnt know at the time. I mean, the devs keep on talking about Tales being very japanese (this is obvious) in every concepts that westerners have problems with and think are liabilities, they keep on saying the DS is very japanese.
But they don't seem to know or understand that the XB360 and its games library is not japanese oriented at all. I mean, if I strongly feel that already, I can't even begin to understand how japanese people must feel with this console.

So they don't seem to realize, like the writer said, that they're sending this game to die. Or perhaps they do, so to limit the crash, they don't announce a PS3 port yet.

Namco is stupid. This will only piss Japanese gamers off again. I bet they will lose most fan of the Tales series.

Wow, really great first post /sarcasm

Tales games are on almost EVERY system now in Japan (except the PS3 now). PS2, PSP, DS, Wii (coming soon), and now the 360.

Anyway, Namco has at least one sale of this game locked up (me ), although I'll probably never actually play the game, hehe.

Time exclusivity :

The latest issue of PLAY Magazine has details on the latest Tales game, and it just so happens to be a timed exclusive for the Xbox 360. Set to hit the Xbox 360 this year (odds are fourth quarter), Tales of Vesperia is the first Tales game to be in HD and will feature a lot of the trademark excellence that has made the series one of the most loved JRPG’s around.

PLAY interviews Director Yosh[ito] Higuchi on why the game is for 360, and what we can expect for Vesperia; and the answer may surprise you.

More after the jump

Play: I wondered if you were aiming directly at the Western markets.

YH: No, it’s not like that at all-we’re not that bigheaded yet (laughs). Like always, I think that our Japanese fans understand Tales the best. But does that mean Tales can’t succeed in the West? Of course not-Symphonia proved that there are plenty of Western gamers who appreciate the very Japanese sense Tales has. Our goal is to make this game for everyone who appreciates that sort of aesthetic, so, no we’re not aiming directly at the Western market.

Play: We love the 360, but it hasn’t been doing very well in Japan.

YH: I suppose you want to ask, “why 360?” (laughs) We had actually begun research into HD hardware while still working on Abyss. When Abyss was finished, it was very well-received, and we had to decide where we were going next. There were many possibilities-at the time, we could certainly have done another game on PS2. But we felt there was a need to go HD. Logic would dictate we’d have to do it eventually, so why not now? That left two choices. When we started this project, the 360 had the more complete development environment.

Play: Was that the only reason?

YH: Well, even thought the West isn’t our main target, I knew we had to cater to our overseas fans as well, so that’s another reason. But this doesn’t mean we’re not going to work on PS3 or other hardware-just that Tales is coming to the 360 first.

Play: Can you see Vesperia getting ported to PS3 some time in the future, like Eternal Sonata?

YH: Yes, I won’t deny the possibility. But we’re not thinking about it yet-there are so many other things to concentrate on first.

Time to Work !

Did you notice the fact they said that they aren't even working on a PS3 version?

So all of those that want ToV on PS3 should expect to wait absolutely no less than 6 months.

Eternal Sonata's US localisation wasn't too bad as far as I understand, so maybe ToV will be the same way. ToV is probably one of my most-anticipated titles for the year, as I will buy it day one, and so will my girlfriend's 8 year old niece that bought an Xbox 360 souly for Eternal Sonata.

And for those that whine about the X360 not being a good system for JRPGs: Prove otherwise. What RPG has been a massive succuess on either the Wii or PS3 thus far? Last time I checked, neither system have RPGs. It's people like ookaze that keep the X360 from selling JRPGs, as they're waiting for crap to come out on their blessed system rather than buying the system that *gasp* has the best lineup of RPGs, which is obviously the X360 right now.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Awesome; more Tales love.

I wonder which will be better, this or Tales of Symphonia 2...

Things for sure:

1) The localization will be lazy.

2) Cam Clarke will have a major speaking role.
