The Wiimote made all the difference between the two systems.

Also, DS didn't have Mario Galaxy Portable or Smash Bros Brawl For DS.

So blaime the GamePad then, not the 3DS. It's an unwanted extension to gaming (unlike the Wiimote)

Also DS had Super Mario 64 DS (which is a lot like Galaxy), New Super Mario Bros, and Animal Crossing. WiiU doesn't have Animal Crossing.

64 DS was nothing like Mario Galaxy. It was a port of an 5th gen game while Galaxy was a bold, groundbreaking leap forward for the franchise.

DS had no Wii Sports/Wii Fit, no Twilight Princess, no Smash Bros, no Mario Galaxy; it didn't offer cheaper alternatives to all Wii's system sellers the way 3DS does for Wii U.

As for Wii U and Animal Crossing, it's coming; wait and see. ;)

I disagree, 64 DS let you play as Yoshi.....was much better then Galaxy.

3DS has no Wii Sports either, what's your point? WiiU needs a Wii Sports to be successful, simple.

3DS also doesn't have any new 3D Zelda's. If you're willing to omit Super Mario 64, you have to omit Ocarina of Time.

So far you've argued nothing, many of the big Wii franchises were on DS

He didnt say Galaxy was better than 64 DS, just that it was a new concept and both games were vastly different unlike 3D Land/3D World which are very similar

His point about those games is they were much different than DS games. Wii had huge hits like Wii Sports/Wii Fit/Smash Bros while DS had huge hits like Nintendogs/Brain Training/Pokemon. 64 DS and Galaxy were very different from each other just like Twilight Princess/Skyward Sword were much different than Phantom Hourglass/Spirit Tracks. There were some games that were similar like NSMB/Mario Kart/Aninal Crossing but in general Wii and DS each had alot of big sellers not found on the other.

In comparison many of the current and upcoming big games on Wii U are very similar to 3DS titles. NSMB/3D World/Zelda remake/DKC/Mario Kart/Smash Bros entries on both systems are similar plus the fact that 3DS is half the price and has a ton of other big sellers not found on Wii U like Luigi's Mansion, Animal Crossing, Pokemon X/Y, Paper Mario, Mario & Luigi, Fire Emblem, Kid Icarus and a bunch of successful 3rd party titles.

You're missing the point.

Wii and DS were different enough not to compete. There was no Mario Galaxy Portable or Smash Bros Brawl DS. The Wiimote was a huge differentiator.

3DS and Wii U are too similar: 3D Land - 3D World, Smash Bros for both, etc. No Wiimote type hook to separate Wii U.

Wii was popular largely because of Wii Sports, Mario Kart, Wii Fit & New Super Mario Bros. If you look up Wii games, these are the only franchises to break 20 million. 3DS, like the DS, has Mario Kart and New Super Mario Bros. The affect of 3DS sales on the WiiU is the same as DS sales on the Wii.

People bought the DS for Mario Kart, Pokemon, New Super Mario Bros, and Brain Age. 3DS has all that too.

Yes okay 3DS is getting Smash Bros, but just like how Mario Kart DS didn't affect Wii sales, neither will Smash Bros 3DS. It's a completely different market for handheld gamers then console games. I for instance will never buy a Mario Kart of Smash Bros on a handheld because I don't play alone or online.

I think most people view Galaxy as a 3D Mario platformer, just like the rest.

of the popular games on DS & 3DS there isn't a significant difference in the number of similar games to consoles. Look at all the games to sell well on each system

DS

New Super Mario Bros.
Nintendogs
Mario Kart DS
Brain Age 1 & 2
Pokemon Diamon/Pearl
Pokemon Black/White
Animal Crossing
Pokemon Gold/Silver
Super Mario 64 DS
Mario Party DS

Pokemon.....
Dragon Quest IX
Cooking Mama
Prof Layton
TLoZ: PH
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon
etc...

3DS

Pokemon X/Y
Super Mario 3D Land
Mario Kart 7
New. Super Mario Bros. 2

Animal Crossing: New Leaf
Luigi''s Mansion
Nintendogs + cats
TLoZ: OoT
Monster Hunter 4 & Tri
TLoZ: ALBW
Paper Mario

4 of the bigger 3DS games have similar entries on the WiiU (5 if you count the upcoming Smash Bros) while the DS has 5 as well..... Plus look at what's left, both systems have Nintendogs, Pokemon, and a top down Zelda list. Heck the 3DS has Luigi's Mansion as well, which is nothing like any WiiU game.

Argue Mario all you like, but if you want to say OoT is like Wind Waker (which they are nothing at all alike) then you have to accept that 64 is like Galaxy.

Sure okay there was the DKCR remake on 3DS, but how well did that sell? It's not the reason why WiiU sales are weak. WiiU is selling poorly because of the Gamepad no one wanted, and the lack of Wii Sports/Mario Kart. Simple.

Bah, the fact is the Wii U isn't strong enough to push itself out of the 3DS' shadow and that is all on the Wii U itself for not being better and presented properly.

only the casts are the same. and in the end, it will be the only smash bros either console will ever see and: those who own a wii u and want smash will get the wii u version. those who own a 3ds and want smash will get the 3ds version. those who own both and want smash will probably get both eventually.

But if you own neither system, it's easier to justify spending $200 than $350.

Obviously if there were no 3DS version both the Wii U version and  Wii U hardware would benefit.

I said this months ago and got jumped on by the fanboys.
