They'd fuck it up somehow and make a Virtua Boy DS with like four lenses. Then they'll wonder, "What went wrong? It work for DS."

Not as dead as Vita. Zing!!!!!!!

Yesterday they proved they dont even know how to get virtual console right, they need to get these basics first before we start talking about VR.
VR tech will turn out to a failure just like before in the early 1990's, history repeats yet again.

Be careful what you wish for.
VR wouldn't be a bad route for Nintendo to have gone down, the problem is Sony is already moving on this first, so it's probably too late. And then you throw Facebook into the mix with the giant cash backing and it probably doesn't make sense any more. Nintendo is not good at playing catch up.
Virtual Boy 2 honestly probably would've sold better than a Wii U had it released in 2011, just because the technology has caught up to the idea, in 1995, it was laughably impractical as the graphics tech simply wasn't there yet.
In hindsight I think if Nintendo knew back in 2010/11 that the Wii U was going to be such a dud, they probably would have explored the idea of VR more back then. It certainly would have instantly made their system stand apart from anything else on the market for a minimum of 3 years.
VR is just the new 3D, that was the new VR in the 2000´s, that was the new 3D in the 90´s , that was the new Fulldome in the 80´s.......
I´m not sure that VR will be such a huge trend in the future. Yes, some companies may find creative ways to use it, but it still seems too fancy to be pratical for everyday use, be it on games or work

The virtual boy had all its processing power inside the googles themselfs which made it heavy and uncomfortable. If Nintendo wants to take on VR they need to make it like th Wii U pad having a box ( more powerful then PS4 to get the necessary frames) and wireless transmission to the VR Headset with very little latency their tech for the Wii U pad would actually be perfect for this. But the cost of such a system including the VR goggles would be high next gen with better Chips it might be feasible to get a VR system out for 499 right now its not possible to do it for a mass market price. Nintendo would have to really focus on that to make it a big hit I doubt they will dump Billions in a new VR system before Oculus/Sony have proven that there is a big market for it.
I would definetly buy it tho.

Well, the (idea of the) Virtual Boy was ahead of its time and thus the product wasn't really suited for the mass market, which resulted in the problems it had. I also heard that Yokoi, who invented the thing, didn't want it to be made in the state it was in, but Nintendo pushed forward anyway. And there were some other big mistakes made by Nintendo (relating the system to their portable line when it really isn't portable, or not having a headstrap, for example).
A "Virtual Boy 2" would only be a Virtual Boy in name, since technology has come so far since then. I think the idea is not the worst of all, though I'm not sure if the VR thing will catch on as much and as quickly as some people think. I vote for yes, though.
