I've tried to vacuum out the dust out of my ps3 (on the lowest suction) - the poor thing wasn't the same afterwards. Don't trust the idiots that say it is safe.

Fans inside a system have bearings which are designed to handle a certain speed before they will start to heat up or just shatter, If you hold a vacuum cleaner up to a fan which is off the air going through it will make it spin a hell of a lot faster than they're made to take. I know there are no fans on the underside of a ps3 but sucking air though any part of it could have spun up the ones on the back as the air had to come from somewhere in the system to be pulled out the underneath and fans design means that air going through them will make um spin.

Ye putting a normal vacuumcleaner on full suction is a bad idea, but putting it on a lower setting or using a dry towel also work well

One thing I saw during my days as a cop: People would just sit their consoles in the middle of the floor on the carpet! Just seeing something like that still gives me nightmares.

That's basically what I do lol, may I ask what the issue is with doing that? Bad for the console?

I tried many thing with my PS4 but I fear that it's running too hot. I even put a fan on it but it still feels hotter than my phat 360. Is it suppose to feel like this?

Poor ventilation, dust particles, it could get stepped on, improvised weapon in a fist fight when your opponent has you pinned to the ground--It's just not a good idea.

Good enough for me, that last reason has me a bit weary!!

3 tips about ventilation. They are obvious, but for some reason a lot of people forget it:
- Don't let the sun shine on it. Close your curtains or move the console. For some reason, a lot of people seem to make this mistake. Especially in summers!
- Every console has one side which is basically just ventilation, most of the time the back. Make sure this isn't against to a wall, the heat needs plenty of room to escape.
- If you're going away from your console for a considerable amount of time, turn the damn thing off! You have people who play for 2 hours, leave and let it stay one for 3 hours and then play again for 2 hours!, no shit it's gonna overheat after some time!

Scratch all of that.

The list should be;

1: Make sure your favorite console is from before the sixth generation and doesn't have a CD drive.

I LOVE ICELAND!

it does no harm to run the fan test on a ps3 every month, be doing mine for four years and its fine.

every time I go to my brothers house, I have to tell his kids that it is not a good idea to have their wii and 360 on the floor.  So they put a box underneath of them or something while I'm there, but next time I go over they are back on the carpet...

you forget the random static charges that come from carpet as well!  I remember carpet was a big system killer for the original xbox...
