Many are skipping Pax this year (including Sony).

Uh, they're skipping PAX EAST. There's no indication that they won't be at PAX Prime.

Maybe a release date for their games rather than just 2014...

So... had to pretty much change everything in the OP to actually have an accurate and non-rule breaking thread (Next time, you need more content than just the link). PAX changed to PAX East and the full list of developers/publishers who are not attending have been added to the OP.

Now that the thread was updated all of our earlier comments look silly. Ideally i'd migrate this to the other thread, but eh, mod war.

Why don t they just do all their marketing and pr through Nintendo Directs? It would be much cheaper- They could even do all their commercials through Nintendo Directs?

A response from Nintendo, from GameXplain:

“Interacting directly with our fans and letting them play our games firsthand is a key component of our approach. That doesn’t include PAX East this year, but we will offer our fans a variety of opportunities to get their hands on Nintendo products in 2014. Keep an eye on our social media pages for more information about where we’ll be and what you can play.”

Sounds like they'd rather make more touring events, like Best Buy and with some of the major malls back in the holidays, instead of asking people to pay immensely for airline tickets and event tickets to demo their latest or incoming stuff.

Yes but those other companies are skipping the event for intelligent business reasons. Everyone knows Nintendo only does things because they're illogical and stupid.
