Forums - Sales - PS4 hardware sales jump 106% on InFamous: Second Son launch

PS4 will likely globally outsell Xbox One in March. NPD will be interesting. Could be very close.

Simple fact that Sony brought in a lot of stock to co-inside with inFamous

you can always tell the lhe guys who have been here a while. We know how the patterns work and a large increase for a soldout console has nothing to do with a game that was released but rather unmet depand.

Best example I can think off. When SSBB came out in 08 the Wii had a large increase is sales. But, it had little to do with SSBB and more to do with the fact it was soild out and nintendo shipped more Wiiis to coincide w/ SSBB,

This is an interesting parrallel. Titanfall cleary sold some XB1s (we will never know how many, some bought an XB1 for TF before it came out, some may tet buy an XB1 for the TF) we will never know if Infamous is a system seller because we dont know if sales now are unmet demand or increased demand for InSS.

I have also been following PS4's avaliability in the UK quite closely

Both definitely sold consoles, before and after the games' launches. Titanfall of course co-incided with a price cut and new free game further confusing the problem

Expected, considering Mgs GZ also. Can't wait for the numbers.

Be interesting to see Japan numbers on Wednesday, see if MGS did the business for PS4 there too.

only the same % boost as titanfall.

...am i wrong to be disappointed?

Depends on stock. If they were restricted then (assuming these numbers are true) it's not. If they haven't been held back by anything then yes, like the Titanfall boost it's pretty disappointing. You'd expect a bigger boost from the 1st major post launch release of both consoles.

yeah, that whole stock thing certainly plays a factor.   ..but seriously, fuck sony for not getting more stock out.  it should not be that hard to get  ~200k consoles a week on the market.  this 130-150k weekly is pathetically low.

infamous and titanfall as that last known (aka dated) AAA exclusives that we know of for a long time.  get some fucking consoles into stores.  if they sell out that would typcially be great.   ...but if they sellout and sony still only sell 200k sony is litterally killing their hype generating moments off.

PS4 is doing PS3 last year numbers, and less than half the numbers it was pushing in 2009 and 2010.

Ah... and I´ve read here that UK received a large bunch of PS4s the Titanfall week.

+ 5 days in stock at Amazon and Bestbuy, 4 days at Meijer and the Infamous bundle is still available at GameStop.

Yes, demand is insane...

how many months has it been now that i've had to reread slightly different versions of this same post?

downplay ps4 all you want but ~7M in it's first fiscal year is impressive.  55% more impressive than ~4.5M...

Haha As others have pointed out sales increase over the course of a generation. On top of that, this whole "PS4 is selling worse than the PS3 was" thing isn't a path I'd go down if I were you. Considering there wasn't a single year before the Xbox One launched that the 360 didn't sell more units in January/February than the Xbox One has this year.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

the news mentioned the increase was for the whole europe for the week ending march 15 and we already got europe numbers for that week.

Source?

Only news I've seen referred to a 72.4% increase from an MCV editor, who only report news on the UK market:

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=6157353

I'd like to know where you got that there was a European-wide increase from because Europe as a whole is a bitch to track, and I'd question whether anyone has access to that kind of information.

So, once again, no, we don't have that chart yet.

then I misread it, my bad.

Not knocking anyone. But I'd never buy a console because of a game.

Nah, as others have alluded to in earlier posts.  The boost isn't necessarily due to Infamous, the boost is because Sony made sure stock was available for the Infamous launch.  Now, did people go out and get PS4's specifically for Infamous?  Or was it just an opportune time for people who want to get PS4's, to get them?  That's kinda the question, and not really answerable...in fact, I don't think it'll be easy to tell demand for any PS4 game until supply catches up to demand.

You have me intrigued now.

What do you buy them for, Doorstops? Paper Weights?
