Forums - Gaming - why would you buy a new console at launch?

There was no reason for me to wait for the PS4. I wanted the better version of the multiplats and the controller is awesome.

I am the Playstation Avenger.

wel if people don't buy consoles at launch it doesn't drive confidence. Look at Wii U launch no 3rd party confidence in the system. PS4 although it kind of lacks decent variety Sony fans have spoken and told 3rd party devs we want the system now give me the games.

Consoles worth getting at launch:

Obviously because of Super Mario 64.

Very good price point and many games available at launch. REmake and Metroid Prime followed soon after.

Halo turned out to be one of the best launch games ever. Seeing the ring arc into the distance in and of itself confirmed the Xbox to be worth the purchase. (the price dropped quite soon though - and it was substantial, so this one is slightly debatable)

Why not the Wii it had THE best launch game ever... Wii Sports

           Survivor Millennial vs Gen X!!

My recent day one purchases

3DS - Got because i knew id get a new pokemon for it. I didnt think id have to wait years for it though.

WiiU - Again i knew id get smash bros and ZombiU was good enough for me to decide to get it.

XBO - One of my all time facv launches with Killer Instinct, Forza 5, and Ryse. It also helped that near future library which included TitanFall, Halo, Quantum Break, Plants vs ZOmbies Garden Warfare, and Max: The Curse of Brotherhood was coming.

And that really is how it goes with me. I get stuff for games and future libraries based off some of my favorite franchises.

Well even though you may not like it, it defined the console in many more ways than Halo did with Xbox, (insert best PS franchise) did with PS etc.

On topic. I bought the 3DS at launch, along with Pilotwings Resort. I bought it because I loved the DS, and thought 3DS would get as many good games in a short while after launch. That didn't happen.

Yep.

Price of PS4 won't be changing any time soon. Why wait?

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I also wanted to buy PS4 early, but in Norway the whole country gets like two consoles every two months. The demand is high here too.

Yep.

The thread title is: "why would you buy a new console at launch".

In other words this thread has nothing to do with the casuals and the blue ocean or novelty. If you want to compare Wii Sports to Super Mario 64 and Halo then I don't think I can communicate with you.

The only reasons I'd consider it is if a last gen console of mine broke or was no longer being supported, and I needed something to play games on that wasn't going to become obsolete in the next year or so, or the obvious "if there was a game I really wanted."
