Forums - Gaming - Do you find it weird how fast some third developers are moving on to current gen only titles?

So?

No Way! Current gen for the win! 30 15.15%

It should be this fast! 57 28.79%

Goodbye last gen! 28 14.14%

It's a bit weird... 26 13.13%

hmmm 4 2.02%

No, it's normal 44 22.22%

unsure 9 4.55%

Total:198

Isn't this how the industry work?? 3rd parties have a job to create an install base too, otherwise they leave themselves nobody to sell their new games to. Nobody is going to stick around on PS3 and 360 forever, technology has moved on and so will the gamers.

I think it's weird, but because I thought gaming development was expensive enough with the 7th generation consoles. Bioshock Infinite sold a good number, but even then they forced Irrational to shut down. Didn't Assassin's Creed III take $100 million to develop? I don't know, maybe the x86 architecture will make development time shorter and easier, but those higher polygon counts and apparently every franchise going open-world (Mirror's Edge 2, Metal Gear Solid V, LEGO) are still going to cost a lot of dough

You call this fast?

Cross-generational titles were a rare thing in the past. Now, we see lots of them.

Batman had a current-gen (im gonna refer to PS3/360 as current gen) game out last christmas. Ubi soft, is believed to have a current gen AC coming aswell.

With that said, from a strategic point of view its good to carve a space early on. The beggining of a new gen is a time for opportunity (because of the droughts).

One game you dont have there is by CI games called Lords of the Fallen (Dark Souls like game). Coming to X1/PS4/PC this year.

ps2 got games for quite a while

Actually I don't think you're right. Theres alot of games coming also for ''previous gen''.

Xbox and GCN didn't, though. PS2 just had too big of an install base too ignore.

Those 07/08 games were just yearly Sports ports, not AAA games or anything.

And PS4/Xbone are doing better out of the gate than PS3/360 did, which encourages devs to make the transition more quickly.

Sadly that should be the trend for every generation. But at least we have luck, one/ps4 are doing amazingly, so they have confidence releasing their games exclusively on next-gen.

ps2 didn't get many cross gen games.. because it was way too weak..

the darkness didn't come out on ps2 like thief did on ps3 and ps4.. HD dev cost is so high that they have to release the game on several platforms.. since low settings on pc = last gen for new games.. and high settings on pc = current gen they might as well release both versions

I didn't think developers would be this fast in moving on to current gen consoles only. It hasn't even been a year yet. So, what do you think of this? Here are a few examples

poor wiiu.
