Forums - Sony - The Current Problem With The PS4

Threads like this make me feel old, I don't see how one could have this viewpoint unless they missed last gen's launch. I'm not worried about PS4 triple AAA's because considering the amount of games they had with a disastrous launch, it would be hard for them not to exceed it in quality and quantity.

In fact, I simply got my ps4 early to avoid supply issues, since I knew it wouldn't get a price cut soon. Once either xbox 1 supply gets more scarce or I can be sure there won't be a price cut close nearby then I will feel more compelled to buy it.

I'm more concerned with PS4's lack of Media features and promised Launch features, because practically all of those things are do able with a patch, like suspend, dlna, mp3, etc...

infamous just released yesterday. geez.

you didn;t read anything

no no. i read the start, then when he complain about lack of triple AAA ecxlusives i stoped reading. Killzone and infamous are released. there is Battlefield, Call of Duty, Fifa, Assassins Creed, NBA, Thief, final fantasy 14, madden and need for speed. so in 4 months he has all those to play. did he? there is no lack of AAA games on PS4. is just that we all love to get giddy and hyped for exclusives to release every few weeks, when reality is nobody has the time to play all the games on the system.

Apparently third party games don't count as games! They fall in the same category as indies ^^

indies? those are nothing. they cant provide a fun experience. they cant do shit with out a huge marketing team.

but really, a lot of these people on the internet are huge hypocrites. they complain about how much shooters are there, and how no unique games are being made, then disregard indies for not having triple AAA budgets. do people not understand that not every game needs a 40 million dev budget and a  50 million marketing campaign? how would a game like Dont Stave be any better with a tripple a budget? a tripple AAA budget would have probably ruined bastion and would have done nothing to Limbo. some games dont need huge budgets and some do. the great indie games certainly dont.

those who want to disregard indie games let them, its honestly their lose. sometimes i swear, people play marketing campaigns not games.

Well the cross gen games he may have already played on PS3/360.

then its his fault for buying a PS4. its like me buying an XB1 and complaining i already played all its games on PC. really, if he already played the cross gen games, doesnt like infamous or killzone, doesnt like indies, doesnt like F2P games and decided he shouldnt play the newly released games on PS4 but on other platforms, its his fault.

You brought up the criticism that everyone already knew from the start. It's kinda like making a thread with the title "The Current Problem With the Wii U" and then talking about how you have discovered after much research that it is less powerful than the PS4 and Xbox One.

I don't like the PS4 either, but for better reasons than the ones you've listed. For starters, I don't just think the PS4 lacks triple A games, I think it has and will release triple A games slower than in previous generations even if it is the winning console this generation. Simply because its getting more difficult to support the major console brands with games anymore. On top of that I think they will be lower in quality as we've seen with Titanfall.

The only problem is that there aren't enough of them to sell.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

It's been 4 months.

I could just leave it at that.

Or I could just point out that the first year of release of the majority of consoles, barring those that launched with a killer app (Super Mario Bros., Wii Sports, Tetris) generally have a pretty rough first year as far as game selection goes. That means it's a given. If one can't recognize this repeating pattern, then they're of course free to complain that every time they stick their hands in the fire they get burned as they do it over and over, but people with a bit more sense know better.

People with slightly more than average savvy can simply look at the launch release calendar to see what the first year PS4 catalog will bring and make an informed decision based upon that.

If there are any problems with the PS4 it would be that it currently, emphasis on currently, does not offer the media functions that the PS3 eventually gained as well as some that it had on launch. And I will point out that while those media functions were part of why the PS3 became my default entertainment box, those same functions didn't sell millions of other consumers to pay $500-600 for a game console that first year on the market.

In short, what's currently absent on the PS4 outside of the games we all know are in development because we can use Google and look up the release schedule, is not a priority when it comes to expanding the PS4's marketshare. The games, which take higher priority (Sony markets the PS4 as a gaming system, not a TV box) are scheduled for release. And even though all those absent functions may not have hard target dates, odds are highly in favor of them being delivered as well. HDCP link was announced for the next PS4 update along with a bunch of other format/codec functions, video editing, the ability to offload in console video capture and screen grabs, etc.

Personally, I just want a media remote like the PS3, but I know that's coming as well even though it's not announced. But I certainly didn't pre-order a PS4 last summer because I was expecting it on day one. So, mildly annoyed, but no complaints.

This is why I sold my PS4 and got a PS3 instead. I was a 360 gamer and missed out on all of the PS3's exclusive games. For half the money, I now have a system that houses a crap load of amazing titles for cheap. Everything from MGS4 to TLOU. Hell, Uncharted 3 is FREE right now lol.

PS4 is a great system, and it's going to have a great library. I have no doubt there. But IMO, it's gonna take a couple years to justify the leap due to no BC. I'll wait and pick one up at that point. Until then, this PS3 is going to keep me plenty happy.

The biggest issue with PS4 right now is lack of games, or at least lack of games that I'm personally interested in. The fact that you have to pay for PSN just to play games online is also a sticking point for me.

Even if I had the $$$$ to buy a $400 new console right now, I wouldn't, because there is nothing on it, or anything that I'm aware coming to it anytime soon, that I want. I have never been into Uncharted, or Infamous, or God of War, etc., so aside from the fact that I suppose Resogun looks kind of neat, there really isn't anything for me. Now it's too bad Crimson Dragon weren't a PS4 exclusive instead of an Xbone one, because I love Panzer Dragoon, and that would be one game I'd want, but obviously that is not the case.

It would take several games I actually want to make me eventually buy a PS4 when it drops significantly in price. Meaning, for one, it'd be nice if The Last Guardian would EVER fucking come out at all. I was super pissed/sad that it never came out as a PS3 title, because I waited literally years for that game, being a big fan of Shadow of the Colossus. IF they ever bother making an Elder Scrolls VI, and don't go the WoW route with that franchise, I imagine it would be on PS4, and so that might also be a game I'd want. ESO looks interesting enough, at least the prospect of being able to go to various different lands is enticing, however, paying a monthly fee to play the fucking thing online, on TOP of paying Sony a monthly PSN fee just to play ANYTHING online, doesn't sit well with me at all. In fact I'd call that highway robbery.

I would also be very interested in seeing Silicon Studio do another game like 3D Dot Game Heroes, not another Zelda clone, but another retro-styled game with those same time of graphics. Then again, they could easily do that on Wii U, BUT if that type of game were PS4 exclusive, it'd be on my list. Same goes for anything new from Vanillaware that might be PS4 exclusive.

But outside of that, I have no plans of getting a PS4 for the next 2-3 years, at least, if ever. I'm perfectly happy with my Wii U, in all honesty, even if it were to be the case that all I wind up getting from it are some good Nintendo games and a bunch of cool indie titles.....frankly I'd be good with that.

In the specific case of ESO on the PS4, it looks like you don´t have to own PS Plus subscrition

http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2014/01/playstation-plus-not-required-to-play-elder-scrolls-online-on-ps4/

Bethesda Softworks parent company Zenimax Media has confirmed that its upcoming MMO The Elder Scrolls Online won't require a PlayStation Plus subscription to be played on the PS4. Xbox One players, on the other hand, will have to pay for an Xbox Live Gold subscription in order to play the game.

Well that's an odd an interesting plus. I was under the impression you could not get online with any game if you didn't have a PSN account, similar to how Xbox operates. However, I'm still not sure I would feel like paying $15 a month just to play it.

If you have no patience wtf are you doing with a launch console anyways? Or even thinking of a new one for at least a year of release?
