Not really a thread to talk about the future of WiiU per say, it's pretty clear how things are going to pan out now. But what do you think Nintendo are going to do going forward? Do you think they still have a slither of hope that they can appeal to a demogrpahic and gain success there, or are they going to move support to the 3DS more which is another ailing system for them right now but one that is actually successful.

Personally I think, for Nintendo, this year is make or break. If they don't get the desired results they will continue to 'support it' but internally they'll have written it off and plan to move on as quickly as they can get away with.

I think we will get a better idea when we see their E3 presentation.

My impressions so far are that they arent doing anything special about it, wich is why i bought a PS4 first, but if they do try to do something about it like unveil new Wii U projects during E3 they are going to keep supporting it. I think they will treat it no different than they did the gamecube.
Usually when consoles sell less they have a bigger software tie in that allows them to survive (because it taps the hardcore wich buy more games).

I personally hope they have a plan to turn it around. In the future i see them tieing together theirs 2 markets (portable and home).

I presume they have accepted that the Wii U will sell between -/+15 Million LTD, have already begun to scale down projects still in the pipeline and move others to the 3DS.

It is what it is. They have clearly given up on the Wii U.

I think they guage the impact of Mariokart, then plot a course. Sales are up about 100% yoy, if Mariokart pushes things up further still, I would expect them to push forward with titles, price cuts, etc. If sales decline, they shift focus to something new sooner than planned. Regardless, I think they are already readying there next products, including a known QOL device, a likely tablet and the next home console which will likely be something very different... Or something very similar to PS4/One...but not in the middle like Wii U.

They're probably just going to make games for it until the next console is ready.

Right now nintendo reminds me of how they were in 2002/3. The Game Cube was largely failing, but the Game Boy Advance was doing really well. Some People were calling for nintendo to leave the hardware market like Sega had done a few years earlier. the Game Cube was also perceived as kiddy by most of the gamers at the time as well (it had a handle and looked like a lunch box for pete's sake). It struggled to keep up with its competitors, but Nintendo slugged its way through that generation to the real ease of the wii, where it really reversed it fortunes. Nintendo's next step is to ride out the Wii U like it rode out the Game Cube and be ready to compete again in the next gen.

I guess what I'm saying is that nintendo has been the underdog before, and can survive as the underdog again. Nintendo's not going anywhere.

Ohhhh, I really want one but if they will only support it for 2 or 3 years more then there's not much of a point in purchasing one. I hope MK8 can help sell many WiiU's!

If Nintendo supported the Gamecube throughout its lifecycle i can't see them dropping the Wii U Anytime soon. I'd say we have another 4 to 5 years with the Wii U.

it will be like gamecube. just limp along until the next gen.
