honestly when you think about it, its useless. numerical values are math, a science. video games are art. its up to the individual to judge that art any way he or she wishes. scoring a video game can never be right, there is no way to accurately judge art and score it. a big part of vide games ( at least to me) is how you feel, and you cant really score that.

Around the Network

10 - Perfect, No game should have this score

9 - Great, an amazing game

6-8 Above average to very good

5 average

1-4 the void

I generally don't care about reviews

Squeezol's Fanclub Member? is that how it works?

Why can't I hold all these no gaemz?

Always looking to improve my awful drawings ;_;

i prefer the x games rating...

1-5.... all the .something is too complicated and opens too much possibilities....

i always interpret it as

5 - Amazing game and should be play and it better be as good as orgasm

4 - Great game with some flaws

3 - Just ok or average game.

2 - A lot of flaws and should only be played if you like the genre

1 - Garbage.....

so in metacritic... 3 would be a 60/100

Taste in games is very subjective... i dont know why people are swaying away from the games that receives score around 60 or less....

Well that was rather insightful. Didn't really expect it from you lol. Still I find them usefull to have around to see the general consensus from a multitude of opinions before spending the cash on the product.  Especially ones that I'm unsure about.

I don't have a fixed interpretation of what those review scores mean to me. I'll get an overview about general consensus via aggregate scores and then I'll pick a review from someone I know and trust.

But I can tell you how I rate myself.
It's basically the same I rate my Animes

9.5 best possible, must play, barely any flaws
9.0 great, must play, minor flaws
8.5 very good, must play if fan of genre
8.0 better than most, something essential missing to be great
7.5 good, play if fan of genre, noticeable flaws
7.0 barely good, only for fans
6.5 nice try, only for hardcore fans
5.0 producer intended it to be bad
I don't rate below 5 because everything, even the worst games, have some redeeming quality.

Though I'm thinking about revamping the system because I found an Anime that comes so close to 10 that it would hurt to give it just 9.5.

Below 5/10: Literally unplayable
5/10 - 8/10: Could be enjoyable depending on player preference
8/10 - 9/10: Probably a very good game
Above 9/10: About 50% chance of being a bad game in disguise

Your scale seems rather lax compared to my interpretation. My 60/100 is garbage. While your 20/100 is garbage. Seems kind of off when I compare my scale of /10 to your /5 though.

The fact that a good chunk of the reviews that make up Metacritic scores use different grading scales means that Meta scores really shouldn't be taken seriously.

Think about it. This thread is about applying a subjective rating to a score that is made up a bunch of other subjective ratings. Pulling an absolute out of that mess is close to meaningless.

Personally, I look at Meta scores as nothing more than a guide with a very wide +/- range, and then as only context to the actual review article. The words are the important bits.

well thank..... huh.. wait what?!

but yes, reviews, and usually metacritic, tend to provide the general consensus of the game. but how are these scores determined? how does a reviewer decide if a game is an 88 or an 89? on what basis?  they all hide behind "its just my personal opinion". but then how is a score of a 9 from mark valued as the same as a 9 from steve or john? if everybody scores differently and see's games differently, then how do we use the same metric on all their scores?
