I don't have a fixed interpretation of what those review scores mean to me. I'll get an overview about general consensus via aggregate scores and then I'll pick a review from someone I know and trust.
But I can tell you how I rate myself.
It's basically the same I rate my Animes
9.5 best possible, must play, barely any flaws
9.0 great, must play, minor flaws
8.5 very good, must play if fan of genre
8.0 better than most, something essential missing to be great
7.5 good, play if fan of genre, noticeable flaws
7.0 barely good, only for fans
6.5 nice try, only for hardcore fans
5.0 producer intended it to be bad
I don't rate below 5 because everything, even the worst games, have some redeeming quality.
Though I'm thinking about revamping the system because I found an Anime that comes so close to 10 that it would hurt to give it just 9.5.
If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.
