Forums - Sony - Technically inferior Xbox One games have higher metacritic, WHY?

Having seen metacritic averages for Tomb Raider and Metal Gear Solid Ground Zero's I was surprised to see the Xbox One versions scored higher despite Tomb Raider having a lower framerate and Metal Gear Solid having a lower resolution. Even games that 100% similar like Rayman Legends scored higher on the Xbox One and it makes no sense? Is it just a case of people having lower expectations for the Xbox One?

Why has this occured in your opinion?

Examples

Tomb Raider: Xbone - 86 PS4 - 85

Metal Gear Solid Ground Zero's: Xbone - 77 PS4 - 75

Rayman Legends: Xbone - 93 PS4 - 90

Fifa 14: Xbone - 88 PS4 - 87

NBA 2K14: Xbone - 86 PS4 - 85

Because they have more reviews.

I think most sites are using PS4 as the lead platform now, so they end up with more reviews than the Xbox One versions, that just happens to skew X1's reviews slightly in its favour

Sony must be paying them.

Interesting observation.

Remember, each reviewer is their own person with their own opinions. And also remember that graphics and resolution don't make a great game. They add to it, but certainly aren't the deciding factor.

I see this as evidence that Xbox One has the superior controller and thus merits a higher average score because it adds to the ease of playability, enjoyment, and fun. ;)

I think the lower framerates and softer resolution lends to a more cinematic experience.

Those games have more critic reviews on the PS4 version, so the average is more affected. The One versions all have considerably less reviews, so it has a better chance at a higher score.

Won bet with t3mporary_126 - I correctly predicted that the Wii U's LTD at the end of 2014 would be closer to 9 million than 10 million. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=6673287

Usually just a case of different reviewers--which, in turn, highlights how ridiculous it is that some people care so much about Metacritic. A plus or minus of a few points is nothing.

Clearly the 'journalists' that are behind video games are incapable of applying the same standards that they did last gen, to this gen. Use my system, any reviewer who does this, stop going to their site. Stop acknowledging their review scores, and stop linking anything they do, ever.

I'm perfectly find with a PS game or a MS game getting a good score, or bad score if it's warranted, but I have a serious problem if reviewers can't even follow their own pre-determined guidelines.

It's a statistical anomaly, most likely. But the controller is better on the X1.
