In fact just saw this link on Neogaf that confirms what I thought:

But in short (and this was posted in 2010)
Respawn is pleased to also announce that it has awarded EA, through the distinguished EA Partners program, exclusive worldwide publishing and distribution rights to future games. Terms were not disclosed. West and Zampella are represented by Creative Artists Agency (CAA).

SMH, it's like selling your soul to the devil. Just watch a new (broken) Titanfall game getting released every 2 years now, starting late 2016 to compete with CoD. Again, SMH.
