Thats true, and even though it might mean nothing, its kinda a weird coincidence too. (i do kno both are green but still). Anyway i'll say if it really is true about year of yoshi, we'll get an announcement of a nintendo direct today/tomorrow for March 19th (if not no year of yoshi!)

Plus Yoshi just had a game come out a few days ago.

Be in denial all you want, people. This year is officially riding on Yoshi's shoulders. It's gonna be his little green ass held to the fire when things fail to pick up. He's gonna be the goat-lizard. You won't see a popular character until things improve.

I can't wait to read Iwata's comments in next year's earnings report. "Yeah, this is all Yoshi's fault. We gave the bastard a chance but he let us down. He won't be in another game until the Wii U2 is released. He screws up again and he's finished in this damn industry!" (Iwata makes throat-cutting gesture)
