Forums - PC Discussion - GTX 770 4GB or GTX 780ti 3GB?

Depending on your situation a GPU right now may not be the best investment. Both of those cards will not be able to keep up with the consoles in a couple of years, and major improvements are coming in the next two years.

If you had to go with one of those I would get the 770 just to save $300. Then in 2 to 3 years pick up a 970 or 1070 for $300 - $400.

That way you could play most things today at 1080p/60 max, and when then move up to 4K/60 max once more games are available, and tvs have dropped.

WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?

No amount of optimization, secret sauces or fairy dust will be able to close the gap between consoles and those cards.

Never, not even remotly.

The PS4 and Xbox One combined aren't even as powerful at a 780ti...............

I don't even understand how someone could believe something like that.

Which one do you think is more future proof?

780TI if you're using higher than 1080p, if not then I don't know why you're considering either of them.

It completely depends on your system, games you play and more importantly the screeen you have to go with it. It is pretty tough to justify a 780 unless you have a very high res screen and/or money is not a factor. If money is not a factor then go the 780, if it is then 770 is likely to more than meet most gamers needs currently and can easily be updated in a year or 2 for cheap when new models come out and either card craps all over anything any of the console will ever be able to put out in terms of performance.

The 780ti is going to stay competitive longer. Both will be capable of 1080p thanks to the ability to adjust settings as required. The 780ti will allow you to keep up 60fps for a while, the 770 will most likely start to struggle in the games this holiday and beyond. Again, you can adjust settings to achieve either the higher frame rate, or better image depending on your tastes. All said, these cards will both be perfect if you plan to play in 1080p, and don't mind max settings and decent AA running under 60fps in the future.

If you are planning on 4k niether card is going to perform very well. Most games have to take quite a hit in settings to allow even 30fps at 4k. Games being built for PS4/XBO/PC from the ground up will require medium settings with little or no AA to run a choppy 30fps.

Personally, like I said before, I would get the 770 now, and upgarde with the left over money to a 970 or 1070 in 3 years or so.

Rubbish.

Last generation was a freak, the consoles had GPU's that were in league with high-end PC cards, the PC was also on the cusp of re-discovering multi-GPU's too, since it was essentially abandoned after 3DFX SLI and ATI's Rage Furry Maxx in the PS2 era.

This generation both consoles are using essentially mid-range, 2 year old hardware combined with a cheap and low powered processor, you can build a PC with 20x the performance difference as the Playstation 4, today.
Never has the PC been so technically far ahead of the consoles in all of gamings history.

We also now have Mantle, for us AMD users, which removes a massive draw-cell burden and as AMD develops the API, more GPU-centric improvements should come forth.
Mantle has also affected Direct X too as now Microsoft is finally getting serious about Direct X again, which should help drive up efficiencies.

If you're gaming on a 1080p screen, the 770 no questions asked. If you ever decide you need more power (you won't for a while though) you can always SLI it with another 770, since they'll be cheaper down the road. Save yourself the cash and get some good games with it.
