They didn't say that. They said that the definition for native resolution might be too vague to describe what's really going on. The image is an un-upscaled 1080P image but not every part of the pipeline is a full 1080p at the same time. They go on to explain that having certain parts of an image show at a lower resolution is common but those games are still called native 1080p.

Yeah, well its not native 1080p and they shouldn't call it that. I presume they won't pull that in the future.

Also, why didn't they use that technique for the campaign?

We'll that depends on how you define native. The image isn't upscaled and lets be honest, that's what most people are talking about when they say a picture is native.

I'm not sure why they didn't maybe because they decided that a higher framerate was needed for MP but not so much so for SP.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Games aren't fun unless its above 720p, don't you know this?

Unfortunately (or not), more and more gamers are boasting 50+inch tvs/monitors. And believe me, it is not funny to watch 720p on such a thing...

Highest frame rate is always preferrable in an mp game. The key problem of any mp game is the fact that after only a few seonds, it runs asynchronuously. Imagine you turn your titan and fire. What are you going to do as a programmer? Fire on your screen, but the other guys won't see you firing until the shot gets processed (through the server) and displayed? When are you gping to see what the other titan is doing? I have no idea how it is actually done, neither theoretically, nor in pratise... You can't really influence the "outside" processing (does the guy with the weakest pings always lose by default?). But you want at least the "click"-processing done as fast as possible, and for that you need the highest frame rate possible in an mp game.

Oh...Ok, yeah that's why. ^

We can argue semantics, but its simply not native 1080p.

HOWEVER, I think its an interesting technique. If the result is a picture that looks arguably better than native 720p, perhaps this technique should be used more often.

Guerrilla obviously didn't use this technique in the campaign because the result is a picture inferior to native 1080p.

I have a 50 inch 1080p TV. 720p still looks fine just not as good as 1080p, but still fine.

I don't think sony's going to allow it this gen.

A Naughty Dog title.

I'm calling it.

i say something either coming next year or in 2 years
