February 20, 2008 - According to a brief report by the Wall Street Journal, Nintendo is set to launch a Wii Channel for original downloadable Wii content, dubbed WiiWare, on May 12. Meanwhile, the anticipated exercise videogame Wii Fit will launch in America on May 19.

The Wall Street Journal elaborates that, "For games distributed over WiiWare, game makers won't need any approval from Nintendo, though they must get their games rated by an industry rating system."

IGN will have further details on WiiWare games in development and Wii Fit later today, so stay tuned.

So, both are coming in roughly 3 months' time.  What do you guys think about the fact that devs don't need to run WiiWare games by Nintendo before putting them up there?  All they need is an ESRB rating an they're set!  Will this be a good thing because there will be lots of games, or will it be full of shovelware?

Also, will WiiWare include DLC (like Smash Bros. characters)?  Or just WiiWare games?

Finally, and I'm sure a few other people are wondering this, does the proximity of the WiiWare release date mean we'll be hearing about a solution to the storage problem anytime soon?

I will update later when they post the further details they mentioned.
