No. It's stupid because they announced both versions simultaneously. They could have easily made the Wii U version first to bolster hardware sales then announce and release the 3ds version a couple months later.

and how would that benefit gamers?

I didn't say it was a benefit to gamers. I'm just saying it would make a lot of sense from a business standpoint since this game could singlehandedly save the Wii U. And the 3ds already has a massive library of games.

A shame Nintendo won't ever do cross-buy. But no, I don't think the WiiU version will sell well.

You know how much Melee sold right? Sure, this one's multiplatform and the Wii U is currently doing worse than the GCN ever was, but I'd still expect 5 million minimum for the Wii U version.

And you know how much the previous 2D Mario games have sold, right?

And you know 2D Mario =/= Smash Bros. right?

So, SSB4 will buck the trend that Wii games have been following?

Uh no, the Wii U version alone will obviously be short of Brawl, but it doesn't have to sell like Brawl to sell well. Hence I brought up Melee, a game that sold really well despite the GCN's poor install base.

If Mario can't get those 5M sales, SSB4 won't either.

So if X can't do something, Y can't do it either. Yeah that logic seems perfectly sound!

Not to mention it's still to early to say NSMBU wont reach 5 million, and you're still disregarding how well Melee sold on the GCN's measly install base. It was even lower than the N64's, yet Melee still outsold it's predecessor, so that should be a testament to the selling power of the series.

thats not really a fair comparison. Melee was in the launch window and the original came to N64 late in its life.

No you are really hyping up smash this game in no way can single handedly save the Wii U it didnt do it for n64, Gc or wii but i guess this is where we see a difference and ill agree to disagree.

One can argue and say GTA4(not launch but close enough) vs GTA5 (very late) :p

but how does that support your argument? All that shows is how much of a beast GTA5 really is.

How am I over hyping it when it sells millions every generation? GTA helped the PSP alot and so does Pokemon games for Nintendo handhelds. The point is smash could easily boost hardware sales and put Nintendo in a better position.

I'm really not sure why people feel this way considering the performance of other franchises across the Wii/DS. At any rate, many people will be buying Smash for local multiplayer, which will obviously be better on the Wii U which won't require 4 different systems and four copies of the game.

DS download play! Don't know if that's actually been confirmed yet though. :L

Everything else you said is true though, except Japan will no doubt flock to the 3DS version!

I would very much doubt that download play would be done in a good way.  Download play would probably be severely limited in terms of characters and stages.

its not like people dont get together to play Pokemon either.

Totally different experience though.  Pokemon is mostly a single player experience.  Even IF you are going to play hardcore, 90% or more of what you do will be single player.  Breeding, EV training, leveling up, all of that is single player.  Pokemon also isn't a game you can't really play casually.  It's not I can have four buddies over, I can bust out Pokemon, and we could all play.  Pokemon requires hours of team building before you can play.

Brawl on the other hand is mostly multiplayer.  Sure it's best if you practice a bit in single player, but you can engage in the game without them.  Fighting CPUs is really not that valuable in training either.  The only thing you really need to play single player for is to unlock things.  Comparitively, you'll spend far more time playing multiplayer in Smash than in Pokemon.

your overhyping by saying it could "save" Wii u. Yes it will boost HW, but there is no saving Wii U IMHO

It could have very well done that. The last smash sold over 12 mil. And i'm pretty sure people said the ps3 couldn't be saved. You're just way too negative towards thing. Someone with your mindset could never run a company.

I could do it better than you IMHO, I actually look at reality and not wish thinking. THe last one sold on a console that had an install base of 100 MILLION, the wii was already flying off the shelves long before Brawl hit the stores. People bought Smash because the had a Wii not the other way around. Did Melee save GC? nope and Wii U is doing worse than that. PS3 only problem was price something Wii U cant say. Im glad ninty isnt throwing their eggs in one Smash Wii U basket or else they would have been in trouble.
