Forums - Sony - Sony reveals their game parity clause.

Well id@xbox is where the parity clause is.  Indies can publish without being the program, at least eventually they will.  I think the catch is that you cant self publish without being the id@xbox program.

either way, if parity or self publishing is that important to the indie developer, then chances are they dont have the resources to make a game anybody will give a damn about.  All this complaint is is just one more point blown out of proportion for the sake of the console wars.

That may be the most incorrect sentence ever written, particularly in the age of Kickstarter. It's not really a hypothetical situation or mere console war fodder when indie devs are already complaining.

Perhaps.  Personally, I know I dont care about 99% of indie games so this could just be me putting my own opinion to it.

So anyone thinks this is related to titanfall?

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Old news but I love that they are throwing it in Microsofts face. Hypocrites. Its very easy to take shots at them because what they do is so obvious.

OT: Wouldnt this be bad for Sony. "Oh I can release late on PS but not on XB so Ill work on XB first since Sony will let me"

That would be my thought

would be valid if things were just xbox and playstation..

...but most of these indies want to release on PC first.  ..or IOs.  ..or ouya.   ...or occulus rift.  ...or even wiiU.

for every game xbox gets as a timed exclusive,...  sony will get 10 console exclusives.   watch the news sites,...  there a new indie announced for playstation every other day.  xbox has had ~1 in the last month.   xbox isn't in a position of strength.  if they were they could strong hand developers into giving xbox free exclusives.  things as they are,..  developers can quite easily say "fuck xbox" and they have been.

But doesnt microsoft give indie developers free dev kits for agreeing to parity and sony makes you buy the dev kits?

This.

It's more than reasonable for Microsoft to ask for this parity if they are giving the dev kit away for free. That's why I'm not understanding the backlash on this. And Sony is showing some arrogance with this tweet. Why do companies do this whenever they become the top dog?

Well hopefully it brings some attention to this issue and maybe MS will back off.  MS might give away a free dev kit but indie devs clearly don't care about that. So while you can try and justify it all you want the devs don't see the "free dev kit" as great as a trade off as you do.

Also before you start parading around this "free dev kit" as something so great maybe you should find out how much a dev kit cost for one. Then you can find out how much a dev loses by having to wait to port their game for the most difficult of all consoles to develop for. When they could be making money off the PS4 version while they develop for the X1. Maybe even make improvement based on people's reactions to it.

And you care about more games that are non indie? I know this year I am definitly picking up 2 games. I bet you more than 100 games release this year that arent indie (across all platforms obviously)

Fair enough.

Hes certainly grown on me, since E3.

I have a feeling that Adam will be taking over Jack Tretton's role at E3 2014 and forward. Seems to have the gaming community in the palm of his hand.
