Good on em for trying a new genre. Will reserve my judgement for the time being rather than going for the 'it's a mobile game and it's a popular franchise therefore it's cool to dis' approach. Other popular mascot characters have moved into other genre's as well with some success.

I find it odd that the attack animation of the birds is not being launched from a slingshot.
