Forums - Gaming Discussion - This is why Xbox One will never catchup the PS4

1.84 tflop (PS4) > 1.21 tflop (Xbox One) plus this.

This would be meaningful if I thought the much bigger power difference between a PS4 and a Wii U meant anything.

The speed of the memory of each system was picked in order to more or less properly feed the GPU each is equipped with (for the xb1 it has a 32MB buffer of some sort to speed up the comparatively anemic DDR3)... so the faster memory subsystem is only there because this is what the PS4 needs in order for the GPU it has to be fed with data properly.

Add to this that the slower machine is much more expensive, especially if you plan on using other features beyond gaming (media apps, web browsing, etc. everything is behind a paywall).

To the buyer the xb1 is worth 300 - 350$ at most, that would be a fair price for it.

That's not why.

Ah, but which one wins in free-fall from a cliff? With which one attached to your leg via a rope can you swim across the English channel the fastest? See, it's not so black & white after all.

Those are difficult question but lets see if we can find some answers.

XB1 is heavier, but less dense and wider.

PS4 is lighter, but more dense and less wide but more aerodynamic.

Both with fall at the same rate, the gravitational constant, but the PS4 is more aerodynamic so it will have a higher terminal velocity then the XB1.

Given that the PS4 will have a higher terminal velocity, the PS4 will hit the ground first depending on how high both consoles are dropped from.

However, given that the XB1 is less dense, its extra weight is not significant enough to overcome to speed difference between the two, it has a higher likelyhood of surviving the fall.

So in other words, PS4 will hit first depending on how high the cliff is, and XB1 will be more likely to survive.

In regards to the swimming thing, PS4 would allow one to swim faster all other things constant because its aerodynamism would have less drag on the water. While the XB1 is more less dense, both aren't very buoyant, so weight and shape has a much greater bearing and the PS4 has the advantage in this regard.

XB1 also has greater chance of taking a bullet and working then the PS4, but clearly the most indestructable of consoles considering it has been tested to be the only thing that can escape a black hole unscathed and still play mario kart.

To be fair that is the biggest issue with Xbone right now... memory speed and small eSRAM.

The weak GPU is not even being accountable because the memory system didn't allow devs to proper use the GPU.

Interesting. So in conclusion; the Vita will win the 8th generation!

Really.  They can't even push that weak GPU because of Xone memory system ?    OMG !

Well according to the chart on the homepage

Wii U < XONE < PS4 < 3DS < Vita

so yeah, unless....
