tomb raider was coded with the old sdk. its esram issue not gpu. im not saying ps4s gpu isnt stronger. but the new sdk effectly allows tiling of data on 32mb. games this early on arent pushing either gpu. next gen engines arent even used to make tomb raider from the ground up.

wait for games xmas 2014 onwards for tiling data on esram. ms have taken that development time away from devs and put into the february sdk, effectively allowing 80 - 100mb of tiled data.

PS4 also has a big hardware advantage that has not really been used in launch games, it is lopsided with cores meaning around 4 of the gpu cores have so far been under utillised, once GPGPU becomes common place you will see massive gains in PS4 perfomance too, neither of these machines is static in its improvements, but the hardware is.

SDK, esram won't change anything, hardware is hardware, it doesnt get better over time. Sony's drivers, SDK will also improve and games will get more demanding the further we get from cross gen games. This tiles resources crap is just that, sony recently has ther ps4 using tiles resources at a much more efficient clip. The ps4 will improve, the x1 will, the gap will always be there. People act like sony will never improve the ps4 tools lol. No amount of software can overcome more powerfull, eficient hardware and architecture. Xmas2014 onwards the gap will be the same. A new SDK will have barely any noticeable effect, it isn;t magic.

Ah, I missed you. Post-generator still working, I see :)

@ flamingweazel

you miss the point.

the reason current launch window games are as they are is they cant fit the data on 32 mb esram. nothing more. its common knowledge ms were behind on sdk as developers complained about recieving them very late. from here on in esram size wont be an issue for storing data needed for 1080p 60 fps.

im not saying in the future ps4 wont have higher poly models or more effects.

I am not missing the point at all, the GPU in the x1 is will always struggle with 1080p, it's lack of fillrate, GPU compute units and shaders are a bigegr issue, and no amount of esram will change that period. More resolution is demanding on the GPU as are effects, textures, see PC benchmarks.  We have not even gotten to the mroe true next gen engines yet that will need the more shader units, fillrate of the PS4's gpu.

Another example put 512MB of ram into the PS4 and see what happens to the graphics.

Dude you need to stop. You have been proven wrong by almost everyone who have commented. The 32mb ESRAM in the XB1 is the bottleneck period. Its like trying to fit a damn aircraft carrier through a small tunnel. you can not do it. you have to break it apart and put it together again once it through. The PS4 in the other hand dont need to break it apart. It has a big enough tunnel to pass the aircraft carrier through.

@ flaming weazel.

the gpu isnt breaking a sweat at launch.

its nothing more than esram RIGHT NOW.

LMAO, esram cannot do anything to help the x1.....it is a bottleneck no matter how fast, it is another point data needs to go thorugh on x1, on ps4 it doesn't., the ps4 has direct fast access from ram to GPU, esram will never offset that. Non of that helps the weaker shader, fillrate of the x1 gpu. Higher resolution = more GPU strain period. The gap will always be the same, hardware is hardware.

Here is my 2 cents on the whole performance debate between the Xbox One and the Playstation 4....

I would prefer a game to run in 720p at 60 frames than a game to run at 1080p at 30 frames per second any day....

This is now the new fabricated "quality vs. quantity" falsehood of excuse and denial.
