Oculus VR Confirms E3 Attendence in 2014 Schedule Refresh

Oculus VR, the company behind the Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) headset, has confirmed that it will be attending this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), running from 10th – 12th June 2014 in Los Angeles. The company revealed the news as it updated its 2014 events schedule, which also confirmed that the technology would be heading to several other events.

E3 is one of the staples in the videogame calender, where platform holders such as Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony reveal big announcements. It won’t be the first year that Oculus VR has attended the event, but hopefully it will bring news of a consumer version of the Rift during the expo, given that the company is aiming for a 2014 release.

Oculus VR has also lined up several pre-E3 events to attend. It was already known that the Rift would be at the South By South West (SXSX) festival in Austin on 8th – 9th March. The company will also hold a presentation named ‘Exploring the Future of Virtual Reality’ on 8th March at the event. Later in the month is the Games Developers Conference (GDC), running from 19th – 21st March, again with its own presentation on 19th March that could reveal a new version of the Rift development kit.

Outside of that, the Rift will be shown at the GPU Technology Conference on 24th – 27th March in San Jose and the consumer-focussed PAX East in Boston on 11th – 13th April. Then on 20th – 22nd May, it will be shown at the ITEC conference in Cologne, Germany.

It’s a busy time for the Oculus Rift and Oculus VR itself, then. The company is expected to have a lot of news throughout the course of the year as it gears up for a conumser launch of the headset. VRFocus will be bringing you all the latest from these events and beyond.

Do you think this has any news to MS saying their biggest surprise ever will be this years E3?   Maybe a MS-Oculus VR partnership to counter Sony's possible VR set?

Well even if it's just a gimmick I could see it help give the Xbox that novelty feel to it and help xbox sales by a good amount.

Any way I'm interested is if Sony just bought them. Otherwise bring me the PlayStation VR! I want to see the future already!!!

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

Looks really interesting. I can't wait to finally experience it in person someday...

I think PS4 and X1 are both too weak to display _high fidelity graphics_ in VR 3D, as rendering resolution is above 1080p and framerate has to be at a _constant_ >60fps, maybe even >80fps for an optimal experience. That's why I think the rumored Sony VR is primarily ment as a higher end Rift competitor and a partnership of MS and Oculus doesn't sound realistic.

They could only achieve enough power to display "AAA" games in VR if they used multiple PS4s /X1s and that would be an extremely niche market imo.

Can't wait. I have been lucky enough to try a couple different dev kits. It is pretty neat tech that has TONS of potential, especially with the company picking up John Carmack. It could easily be the next big thing.

I still think this is a product for hardcore gamers only... Its just too much of a hassle for the typical consumer unless they really want to get a virtual sex experience

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

And that is where it will sell.

We can only hope the porn industry will sustain it enough so that more and more game devs jump on it as well.
