I really fail to see the point (well, besides to make money).

It was a great game with a brilliantly crafted story. I can only see the transition to film reducing the effect as it will have to be edited down severely and won't get same connection.

I think it depends on the rating. I hope the team behind TLoU movie doesn't make the film to attract teens. I'd rather them instead opting to focus more on the elements that made the games atmosphere seem so brutally realistic yet deep within the emotional realm as well. Depends on the actors as well. This is the type of story that will require really good acting, anything less and the movie will feel lost and awkward. I hope they get a bunch of no-name actors that can play the part good like some other movies have done like District 9 or Inglorious Basterds. This movie so far has a great team behind this project.

Maybe this is why Amy Hennig left...

Well, I never considered th erating being anything less than an "R" or equivalent.  What i meant was part of The Last of Us being so great was the seasons and real sense of time passing to see the characters develop and grow.  This is really only possible in a 14-16 hour campaign.  Winter had such an amazing pay off because of the long struggle to get there.  I just think a two-three hour film will struggle to replicate that feeling.

Thinking about it, if it had to be done a 10 part series on HBO would be the best way to tell this kind of journey story.

Around the Network

I have mixed feelings toward the news. I love the Last Of Us, and I want more people to know how great this game is. But I'm skeptical with choice of the company (Ghost House/Screen Gems) but I have some faith since ND are involved with the development.

It was better if it was going to be developed by Sony's Columbia Pictures because it'll have a bigger priority. But If you checked Columbia Pictures history, they mainly produce high budget PG-13 films, while Screen Gems make mid-ranged budget R rated films (their highest produced film was underworld 4 with 70 million dollars) PS, it's developed by Ghost House (famous for their highly violent horror films) so it means we are going to expect a violent R-rated film just like the game. It's now up to the choice of actors and the director.

For the cast I agree with everyone about the choice of either Hugh Jackman or Josh Brolin as Joel, and Chloe Mortez as Ellie (unless they can convince Ellen Page to play her XD) Can I add another suggestion?? how about Hailee Stenfield as Ellie, she was the actress who played Mattie in the true grit remake.

How about this crazy idea, why not the game actors themselves?? maybe they can cast Troy Baker as Joe???? just dye his hair black and some make-up to make him look a little bit older and we'll get the ideal joel. As for Ashley Johanson, she's in her 30's so she's too old to play Ellie, but maybe they can age Ellie a few years older (we have seen many examples in other films where characters are age older/younger to match their actors actual age) nut aging Ellie will ruin the dynamic of Joel/Ellie.

Another suggestion is to write new characters, but that will be another "resident evil alice drama" among the fans of the original game.

I hope the best for this film because I want it to break the curse of "video game films suck" and to show the non-gamers how video games has matured and become more story-driven now.

Oh, and defintly, bring gustavo santaolalla to score the soundtrack again. Even if the movie sucked, at least we'll have great music.

Weren't they doing an Uncharted movie as well? And hasn't said movie been in development for quite some time? Yeah, I'm not gonna hold my breath for THIS movie either...

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Meh. I haven't played The Last of Us yet, but based on what I know about it, it won't be anything special. The crew on it is competent, to be sure, but TLOU in an awkward middle ground. It's too complex a premise to set it up as a simple summer blockbuster, but by the same token the critical crowd is really, REALLY jaded and will just say it's a "nice try" to make a zombie movie unique that only mostly works. The game could aim for demographics right down the middle and please both because the video game market DOES like games between the two extremes.

On the other hand I could be dead wrong. TLOU does have some themes the Academy Awards crowd will eat right up.

The campaign being 14-16 hours does not have anything to do with how good the storyline was or even the events that took place. In any given campaign for a videogame there are moments that would never make it into a movie because there is no set timelapse like there is in a movie. For example, if you are looking for an item in a game, it might take you ten minutes or so. The time-lapse in a movie would be a couple of seconds. The movie would not show Joel running around confused for ten minutes not knowing where to find an item or figure out what to do. Movies have much better pace.

Another thing you and many other people may not know is how long each cutscene in TLoU is or how long they are in total. Next time you boot up the game check to see how long the cutscenes are and then add them up and you will find that the total cutscene time in TLoU is less than an hour! Within that hour worth of cutscenes we have seen huge progression in stroytelling, emotion, endeavors, character developement, direction, you name it. Cut out all the 'looking around for items' or 'taking forever to reach your next destination' and you have yourself an awesome 2.5 hours worth of Hollywood movie bliss.
