Right now I am a happy owner of an 3DS. I am looking for a great Pokemon, the last Pokemon I played was Pokemon gold on the Gameboy colour. 

I need some great advice, which Pokemon should I buy? I am looking for a game with a DS or 3DS format. 

What's important for me:

- A lot of different Pokemons that can hook me for weeks.
- Great story, one that makes me read what's happening instead of raping the A button.
- A lot of side quests or missions (if that's possible)
- Something to do after I beated the Pokemon league, and that's interesting
- Gigantic map compared with Pokemon G/S/C


PS: I just read about Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver, and I am looking for something new. I'll definitly try them later =)

Pokemon Black/White and Black/White 2 have the most content out of any of the Pokemon games. And since you haven't played since Gold/Silver, all of the Pokemon in Black/White and most of the Pokemon in Black/White 2 will be brand new to you.

They're also (Black/White specifically) the most story focused out of the entire series.

I would recommend Black/White and then move on to X/Y. They're both amazing games with loads of content (just passed 210 hours on Y )

Play Pokemon Platinum. It's the best Pokemon game ever made. Inspired by greek myths and the creation of the universe. The characters are all quirky and likable and the plot is epic, if a bit juvenile. There are definitely some "Holy shit. Did Pokemon just do this?" moments in the game too. Lot's of "too real" moments.

You should go for Pokemon Black and white 2 and then X / Y.
Black and white 2 have a huge amount of pokemon and its more focused on the story.
I dont think there are any side quests in any pokemon game... But the post game of some games has to offer some additional stuff like the battle frontier in pokemon emerald. I think there is also one in platinum.
I would go for Black -> Black 2 -> X / Y
I dont really like black / white 1 because you can only catch the new pokemon, but the story in B / W 2 would be easier to understand if you played b / w 1.

You could also go for platinum, i think it has the biggest post game content and imo the most interesting story of any pokemon game. You should be able to get it really cheap by now.

Yeah seems like I will get Pokemon Black/White. Is there any big difference? And if I get Pokemon Black/White 2 first will I get blown away with what's going on?

I dont think there is a big difference, only a few other pokemon.

Depends if you play it for the story! It would help to know the main characters from black / white.

Pokemon Black/White has 156 Pokemon throughout the reigon. All of them unique to Gen V.

Pokemon Black/White 2 has the same 156 plus 145 older Pokemon from Gens I, II, III, and IV.

Pokemon Black/White 2's story does tie into the first game, but the game does do a good job of explaining what happened. Black/White 2 also contains the most content and post-game content out of all the titles. It's certainly the "best of" for Gen V.
