Guess I'll be the only one who's helpful...
Pokemon Black/White and Black/White 2 have the most content out of any of the Pokemon games. And since you haven't played since Gold/Silver, all of the Pokemon in Black/White and most of the Pokemon in Black/White 2 will be brand new to you.
They're also (Black/White specifically) the most story focused out of the entire series.
I would recommend Black/White and then move on to X/Y. They're both amazing games with loads of content (just passed 210 hours on Y 
)
