Supply problems and the second weeks of the Vita and WiiU were in the holiday period.

So the PS4 wasn't the saviour of console gaming in Japan... how sad .

"I've Underestimated the Horse Power from Mario Kart 8, I'll Never Doubt the WiiU's Engine Again"

There is almost no reason to buy it right now. Sales will pick up later.

So it depends on two things. Was PS4 sold out in JP launch week? If yes, then this is most likely supply related. If no then this shows great demand imo because selling 60k the second week if it was available readily launch week, as some people were posting to diminish the launch demand then a lot of people are still buying it week two that could have week one.

If it wasnt sold out week 1 then I would assume that everyone who wanted one could get one and then the drop would be much worse than to 60k. In conclusion, its 2 weeks. #iwantinstantgratification #kneejerk #lookatmeimontwitter #instantanalysis #hashtag #imimportantlookatmyhashtags

I think there's some wishful thinking that it's a supply issue. I think it's more likely a) non-Holiday, b) declining console market in Japan, and c) lack of games that appeal to Japan.

We already heard that stores in Japan were selling out and had already been selling through additional shipments. The console was also released during a month that, like January, typically doesn't see good sales. Unlike North America and Europe, the Japanese launch happened outside of major holidays. It also doesn't help that Sony is now supplying 57 countries and counting. As stated in a survey, most Japanese seem to be waiting for games that have yet to release. In addition, expect mobile gaming devices to do better in Japan than consoles overall. Though that doesn't mean Japan won't be important and I fully expect that it will be responsible for at least 10 million consoles sold by the end of the generation.

Resumé...

PS4: Over 6 million
Japan: 370k
Software: Over 13.7 milllion
Killzone: Over 2.1 million

Unlike the Vita and Wii U, the PS4 doesn't have any exclusives except Killzone and Knack.  Maybe Japan sees that even if the US and Europe doesn't. Yakuza is the biggest game in Japan and it can be purchased on the PS3. What's the point in upgrading when there's nothing available that's new?

It'll do better, but once the system actually gets some games.  Also it could be because Japan is smaller and the low stock.  Sony might be delegating less stock to Japan than US and Europe since they know they'll sell more in those areas.
