No cause they are already losing money, if they do another one, they will lose even more money... But with that being said I think if they are going to do a price cut, it will be at least one month after Smash

They were losing money when they did the first price cut too ya know! Atleast this time they'll have more games out to help make up for the losses, but in order for those games to sell, they need a base to sell on, hence the price cut.

Yea but here is the thing... So lets say they are losing $50 per wiiU sold, in order to make that up, they need at least $50/game to break even, so if they lower the price even more, lets say they are losing $100 per wiiU to break even, so if thats the case, according to a few websites and Pachter, Nintendo will make $40sh per physical first party game so they need the customer to buy 2.5sh $60 first party only games per console to break even and bundles don't count... So basically, their customers have to buy Smash Bros, Mario Kart and 3d world without any bundles for Nintendo to even begin make profit... And lets not forget the development costs for the game itself as well as marketing and etc

The way I see it is if people are waiting for these games to get a wiiU, then there is zero point for Nintendo to drop the price until holiday season around boxing day or christmas but if the people are not waiting for these games to buy a wiiU, then most likely, they won't buy it at all cause these two are the most appealing games that will come out for the system except for Zelda U

There comes a point where sales does not mean success and I do think that Nintendo shouldn't and will not drop the price until November or December

Edit: Also, the reason why it worked great for the wii was cause Nintendo was making giant markups for the wii so they could afford to lower/have the price

It seems u took our conversation to heart

But ya a $50 price cut in May to coincide with Mario Kart 8 and a bundle would be ideal. If possible a redesign that cuts manufacturing costs down a bit and a smaller Gamepad would be great.

This thread has nothing to do with that lol.

It inspired u tho, just admit it

I was meaning to make this thread among others last week, but I procrastinated! :L

Mario Kart 8 releases May 30th. May aswell consider that June!

I suppose. Still, if you think MK8 will boost sales like it should then I'd expect Nintendo would want two boosts (one after MK8 effect starts dropping) to sustain momentum. But I guess you cant go wrong either way here (other than not dropping the price if MK8 does not having the expected effect).

I think a big 1-2 punch of price cut+Mario Kart bundle would be what it takes to get the Wii U the jump start it needs. In order for the momentum to continue it needs a steady supply of releases for the rest of the year. E3 is just a couple weeks after and they will give release dates/windows for already announced games and reveals for new games.

I'm not convinced Nintendo is willing to go lower with the Wii U since they are still selling at a loss. US$250 for premium is quite enticing, but I doubt it will happen.

I think they may cut, but losses could be worse than last year.

Last year they still quite a bit of sales of Wii & DS software helping to cover losses.

This year Wii U & 3DS sales are going to have to brunt most of the operating expenses of Nintendo.

That, and Campbell's soup. ;)

Ya but this year has Mario Connect 4, Zelda Monopoly and Pokemon Monopoly

Having played the game at E3, honestly it just feels like more ... Mario Kart. It was fun, but it didn't scream "ohmygawd I must buy another $250-$300 console now!" type thing. I don't think it will move systems in the way people think. The casuals came to Wii for the motion gaming fad and then stuck around for some Mario and then moved on.

And that has to do with this thread how?

Aha! So you agree then that they'll price cut this year!? xD

But yeah, they'll lose more money if they price cut, we know! Thing is this is stubborn ol Nintendo we're talking about here, so when it's between price cutting or no price cutting and leaving their system and games out to dry, they'll definitely choose the former!

That's what I was saying last year. Didn't work out too well for me!
