Do I trust much of anything Nintendo says? NO! They have not treated Wii U owners well- That being said, I do not think they will drop support of the Wii U w in the next 2+/- years from a literal stand point- but it appears they have already dropped it from a practical standpoint- They will do as little as possible, spend as little money as possible to keep t going for 2 or s more years. IMO it seems they have tanked the Wi U intentionally because they could not be as incompetent as they have acted since the initial Wi U announcement. I know they are buying back a billion of so dollars in stock coming up so maybe they wanted to keep their stock price low until they have bought the shares they want- then maybe they will kick into gear w the Wi u- otherwise they can t/won t even release more than 1 VC game a week, they have not done a thing to shore up the evaporating 3rd party support, they have not finished upgrading some of the console issues via updates yet, and most of the games they are making are platformers even though there are already plenty of platformers on the Wii U since day 1- platformers don t cost as much as 3d games so I m sure that is why- the market wants Metroid- but lets give them ANOTHER Donky Kong.

With the Wii U Nintendo has burned all the goodwill I had for it - I would never make a purchase based on anything they said- I would never by another Nintendo console at launch or close-

Sadly this. Funny how this could said for the wii 2 or 3 years ago.

Ironically when they dropped support for the Wii  3+/- years ago my thoghts at the time were:  although it sucks for the Wii, their next gen console sure will have a tidal wave of games for it !   What the hack were they doing alll that time?  it s not like they don t have the capital.  They must have gone on a 2 year company retreat/vacation

The real problem will be if major retailers stop stocking Wii U's which could happen this year in some PAL regions.
A good indicator will be the PSvita if you see that disappearing off of the shelves then most likely the same will happen the Wii U

If I were Nintendo, I would discontinue the Wii U in 2016 if its sales get a lot worse or stay the same. If they pick up a lot, then I would discontinue it when it makes sense.

Its a balancing act really: They can only discontinue it as soon as they have enough launch games ready for the successor. But if they divert too many games too soon...It will die.

Yeah, I trust them. They would be stupid if they discontinued Wii U before 2016, since they would lose a ton of fans on that move.

They have already lost them, sales speak a crude reality.

It's better for them to move on, convince 3rd parties and support this time their hw. Not the joke they are making with the Wii U and its eternal droughts.

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe

DKCTF didn't move consoles

Who do you think bought those 5 million consoles?

Without their fans I think they would have only sold ~374 pieces of hardware.

3-4 years of rain followed by endless famine. Essentially the way it has been ever since GameCube.

This was their most successful home conslole ever and yet support ended early, really early. Why would I believe they will support WiiU which is struggling to compete with the Gamecube

What? I thought PS2 was the most successful home console of all time. COLOR me confused...

Can't we all just get along. If not for yourself, do it for the future.

I'm inclined to trust them mainly because they've been around to experience what happens when a console maker starts pulling support too early and launching new hardware too early.

They saw what happened to Sega after they pulled support for the Saturn too early and released the Dreamcast. A lot of third-party devs became wary over supporting Sega after that move. Though Nintendo has little third party support to bank on currently, if they axed the Wii U too early third parties would definitely see Nintendo as desperate and potentially unstable.
