Forums - Sony - Will the 5 free blu-ray deal end now that blu-ray won the format war?

What do you guys/gals think?  Will the 5 free blu-rays deal with the purchase of a ps3/blu-ray player now end since HD-DVD has officially died?  I personally don't think so...blu-ray is still trying to gain on the dvd market so I think they'll leave it on for awhile as an incentive to go HD.

I met my dad for lunch today, and he was wondering because he wants to get a blu-ray player now, but was going to wait a little longer if I thought the deal was going to stick around.

No, if anything they'll increase it to fight the 50-times-or-more lead its biggest competitor has... DVD, that is.

Ubuntu. Linux for human beings.

If you are interested in trying Ubuntu or Linux in general, PM me and I will answer your questions and help you install it if you wish.

as game_boy said, they still need to increase blu-ray sales are they are comparatively minuscule to DVD sales

I think that the deal may go away a little bit. However, now that HD-DVD is gone, all the companies who make blu-ray players are going to be going for your money.

So perhaps that deal with intensify?

where is this deal, there isnt one like this near me?

I think most deals out there will remain. Now bluray must face its biggest competitor, the well established DVD.

I think to keep the deal would be smart idea. Even though the movies aren't an excellent selection its still a great incentive to upgrade from DVD.

Cars like Saturn give you a free years of Onstar.

now HD-DVD's dead, Blu-Ray will be mass produced, same goes for Blu-Ray diodes, so PS3's price will drop, and so will Blu-Ray movie and standalone players.

When Blu-Ray player drops below 200 dollars, you will see some shift.

I think by Jan 09, HD TV becomes main seller over SD TV, Blu-Ray player at 150, you will see people start calling Blu-Ray the 'successor' to DVD.

Soriku (Feb 10/08): In 5 years the PS3/360 will be dead.

Well, in Canada it ended January 31st.

Yes, it will more than likely end in March. For those of you out there who are waffling on whether or not to get a PS3, there will probably not be another price drop before the end of the year, so this is a pretty big sweetener (at least $75-125 in value). TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT NOW.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S.
