Forums - Gaming - The Innovation Deception

The subject of innovation is common in pretty much every market on earth, so its no suprise that the gaming industry isn't any different. Add to the fact that the market has stagnated due to the length of the previous generation and game developers taking less risk and attempting to copy the market leader.

What I want to know is why exactly do you value innovation and what exactly do you think it is? When do you invoke it?

Furthermore, lets get somethings straight here:

Innovation =/= Creativity; being creative can be innovative, but innovation doesn't imply the later

Innovation =/= Quality; since innovating involves new ideas, it is not primed or perfected

Innovation =/= Improvement; It can just as easily cause as much harm as good

Innovation can apply to nearly everything; innovation is thrown around like a buzzword and people assume it distinguishes a product from its competiton when literally "anything can be described as innovative"

I, for one, do not. Creativity is king.

I believe in honesty, civility, generosity, practicality, and impartiality.

Is it bad I read all of your posts as Henrt Killinger?

On topic tho, I like the second point tho, I remember many people saying TLoU was super innovative cause of that very reason.

Something that changes the industry dramatically like touchscreens or anime styles and etc, for example:

As you can see, anime has come a long way and each new iteration was innovative imo because it changed the anime drawning style, also its not always an improvement like from 1980s to 1990s... Seriously I have no idea what the fuck they were thinking when they went from 1980-1990s... Thank fucking god for KyotoAni

The 90's had trouble identifying itself, it tried to be many things 50-80's and new at the same time.

This explains it quite well.
