It isn't the game, it's the marketing. Unlike the Wii games, Nintendo is hiding every game they made now behind a Nintendo direct and expecting a miracle where those things replace real effective marketing.

I can't understand the idea people have that Nintendo isn't doing anything new, when anyone who plays their games and owns their systems knows they have the strongest history of doing "new" things. Just because 5 games all have Mario in it, doesn't mean there's nothing new about those games. Any attempt to name Nintendo games that can barely be called "rehashes" can be met with an equally, if not bigger list, of games from other developers that are far more guilty of the term.

I will say this. And please dont take this the wrong way.

Smash Bros has done almost nothing to change the formula. Its almost just a roster upgrade. And even in that, its more of the same too.

Mario Kart seems to be taking a few tidbits from F-Zero, Wipeout and Sonic Racing Transrofmed, so Im ok with the changes incoming for this title.

Xenoblade is pretty safe bet to excite fans.

Zelad. Again, Bombs to open walls, find the bow and arrow somewhere in the map, Theres gonna be a bommerang as well, link does not use voice overs, a spin attack. Rince wash repeat.

Kirby has lost its flair over the past game or so. Its better Nintendo keeps it to the handhelds.

Metroid would do well with classic controls. Only if Nintendo does not make it 1st person and not too much of a fetch/ scan quest. Really, the worst thing about metroid prime was having to scan every damb thing. Got real booring.

Donkey Kong TF LOOKS EXACTLY like DK country. Put those games side by side and most gamers would not know they were on different systems. Same map layout, same sidekicks (sans kranky), same machanics. Copy paste repeat.

Mario. Listen carefully. THERE ARE TOO MANY MARIO GAMES. Mario Sticker star, Super Mario U, Mario Tennis, Mario Golf, Mario Kart, Paper Mario, Mario and Sonic. There is no reason for a Super Mario Wii-U and Super Luigi Wii-U. NONE. They both look and play the same. New Super Mario 3D World is just another copy paste of SMW in 3D.

Im going to stop there cause my point is, Nintendo needs to stop being safe and take chances. Release new ip's. Pikmin W101 & were the last real new and exciting games that Nintendo has released in years. And fact is, there reall just ok games. Nintendo fans also have to take a stand. I love me some old franchises just like the other guy, but if you guys/gals keep buying these copy paste games, Nintendo will only continue to keep releasing them. I play on Playstation and 1 thing that I am certin of and has been for the last 10 or so years is that the Playstation brand will always release new and unique ip's.

Japan Studios, Naughty Dog Uncharted,Zipper Interactive Socom, Evolution Motorstorm,  Insomniac Ratchet & Clank,S.O.E.,  SantaMonica StudiosGod Of War, Media Molicule LBP, Studio Liverpool Wipeout, Sucker Punch inFamous, Polyphony Digital Gran Turismo, Guerrilla Games Killzone,  Sony Bend Sypon Filter.

These are some of the reasons that I support the Playstation, that and I will always get if not all 3rd party titles released on a console powerful enough to run current gen games.

Nintendo makes great games, the problem is that they have not CREATED a NEW experience in a long LONG time.

Time for change my friend.

I respect ur opinion and agree with u to an extent but I hope u realize basically the entire industry is guilty of the same thing. There have been 4 Uncharted games since 2007, what drastic changes have occurred? What about God of War, 6 games in 9 years with minor changes. How are the latest Killzone/Ratchet/Gran Turismo different from previous installments? The same goes for Halo/Madden/FIFA/Assassins Creed/Forza/Call of Duty/Battlefield/Splinter Cell/Tekken/Soul Calibur/Final Fantasy/Street Fighter/Resident Evil/Dragon Quest/Monster Hunter/Tales/Far Cry and many others. What major changes have these games had in the last 5-10 years?

I dont get how u can critisize Nintendo for something Sony/Microsoft/EA/Activision/Namco/Ubisoft/Capcom/Square do as well.

C'mon now. Please dont try and associate the milking of Nintendo games to the likes of any other franchise in videogames.

There were 2 god of wars on the playstation 2. 2 god of wars on the playstation 3. Thats 4 games. Thats all in a 8 year span. There were 3 uncharted games on the ps3. Thats all in a 6 year span.

Put that against mario releases in on year. In 2013 alone we saw over 10 mario related games. Thats all in 1 year.

It not me thats suffering with no unique ips to play on the playstation, Uncharted 2 introduced a multiplayer mode that fun and different from other multiplayers out there, so has God Of War. No one asked for these changes and additions, but the developers found a way to expand on the game and by god they took chances. They tooks risks.

Ratchet & Clank has added remote play with the Vita. Buy the game play it remotely from any internet connection.

Almost all ps4 games will have remote play. Where are the 3DS/WII-U remote play ?

Again, im not suffering here, its the nintendo gamer that gets the shaft and continues to keep coming back for more.

Speak with your wallet.........

Yes I can easily compare them, Mario is way overused ill give u that but ur last post also said things like Smash Bros, Kirby, Metroid, Donkey Kong those games are not milked. How many mainline Donkey Kong games have there been since 2000? Only 2. How about Smash Bros? This will be its 4th since it started in 1999. Metroid? 4 on consoles and 3 on handhelds since 2002. Zelda? 1 on GC, 1 on Wii, 1 on GC/Wii, 2 on DS, 1 on 3DS since 2002. Mario Kart? 1 per console/handheld, this will be its 6th since 2000. Star Fox/F-Zero havent been seen In nearly a decade and games like Metroid/Donkey Kong/Pikmin had similar layoffs at one point as well and Kid Icarus went over 20 years without a game before being brought back.

Uncharted 2/God of War Ascension added multiplayer? So did Mario Kart/Smash Bros last generation. Ratchet & Clank has remote play? Every Wii U game has off TV play.

U also forgot about the handheld versions of GoW/Uncharted. That puts it at 6 GoW games from 2004-2013 and 4 Uncharted games from 2007-2011. Killzone, 5 from 2004-2013. Resistance, 4 from 2006-2012. LittleBigPlanet, 4 from 2008-2012. Gran Turismo, 7 since 1998. Ratchet & Clank, not sure I think over 10 since it started in 2002.

From Microsoft, 5 mainline Halos since 2001. Gears of War, 4 from 2006-2013. Forza, 6 from 2005-2013. Fable, 3 from 2004-2010. EA-25 Maddens in 25 years. Like 8 Battlefied games since it started about a decade ago. FIFA easily 15-20 in as many years. At least 10 Need for Speeds In as many years. Ubisoft-6 Assassins Creeds since 2007 not including DS/PSP/Vita installments. Just Dance-5 since 2009. Splinter Cell-6 since 2002. Activision-10 Call of Duties since 2003. Tony Hawk had like 8 installments in as many years. Guitar Hero? Too many to count. Final Fantasy has had 8 since 2001. Tales of I think had 4-5 last generation. Monster Hunter has 4 numbered entries since 2004 with god knows how many ports/upgrades.

And again what massive changes do any of these games add from one installment to the next? In most cases very little so why single out Nintendo when many other companies do the same as well?

Wii-U's off tv support does not count as remote play. Its the same console. The game pad is a part of the console, its made for it. If 3DS games had remote play with the Wii-U that would be a different story.

Ratchet & Clank 10 games in 11 is not bad at all. Again Mario has over 11 games in 1 year most times.

Madden is a yearly game. Its a sports game. Rosters change every year, so again it cant compare with most other titles. Same goes for FIFA.

Your straying from the point.

Nintendo gamers are tired of always getting the same games every generation. Its always the same lineup. Console gets released, then its wait for Mario game, then a Kirby game, then wait for another Mario game, then wait for a Zelda game, the waith for a Luigi game, then another Mario game.

Where are the Puppeteer's, the LBP's, the Last Of Us, the next Beyond Two Souls, where are the online  games that are pushing the genre forward on Nintendo consoles ?

Where are the Warhawks, the Starhawks, the Fat Princes, the Patapons, the M.A.G's, ? where has Nintendo rolled the dice on a new ip ? when has Nintendo strung a 1,2,3 punch of new games on their consoles ?

Its to the point where their behind in the hardware race for the second time in 2 generations. The Wii was underpowered compared to the ps3/360 and now the Wii-U is also underpowered compared to the ps4/xb1.

Did they have a chance to release a more powerful console to compete ? YES they did.

Did they create a console to compete with the competition ? NO they did not.

I didnt say off TV and Remote play were the same thing, im saying they are both new things that Nintendo/Sony added this generation.

I already said I agree Mario is way overused so no need to keep using that as an example.

Im not straying from the point, ur original statement was that Nintendos franchises dont add much from one installment to the next and I said that other companies are guilty of that as well.

Earlier u said Smash Bros is basically just a roster update now ur excusing Madden/FIFA for being roster updates.

Nintendo makes a few new ip on each and every new console/handheld they release.

Ur last 3 points are completely irrelevent to this discussion and im the one straying from the point?

Once Cammie left, they lost.

I don't know if it can be blamed only on marketing though. For example, look at the Twilight Princess reveal at E3 2004: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VE2Dc1sx71U

People went NUTS. When Twilight Princess launched for the Wii, it was a super hit EVERYONE had to get. It was the Super Mario 64 of the launch, the Halo.

Then Skyward Sword came and barely anyone cared. It just didn't have near the hype and anticipation Twilight Princess had.  I do not think Zelda can ever recapture the hype of Ocarina of Time or Twilight Princess again.

Look at Smash Bros. Wii U.... it's just so meh. Brawl, once again, had TONS of hype and people were excited. Smash Bros. Wii U I bet will barely register a blip on the radar.

I am not saying these games are bad, they are not, but let's face it Nintendo doesn't have the power it had 4 years ago. Mario is no longer the powerhouse it was.

Nintendo REALLY needs to do something fast about this, but I doubt they will. I really hope they do because Nintendo is my favorite game company and it would be a shame to see them just disappear. The GameCube was a failure SALES wise (not profit wise of course) but it had tons of classics but I am not feeling it with the Wii U.

I am starting to think it's best for Nintendo to focus soley on handhelds and this is coming from a guy who took his Wii to college instead of the PS3 and 360!

I expect a similar reaction to TP if Nintendo announces a Zelda game open world, big and with the same art style as the one in my sign. Of course nothing will surpass TP reveal.

SS sales are because art style and Wii Motion Plus.

The psp /  PS3 had remote play last generation.

Thats all u have to say? Do u admit that the other companies are guilty of adding minimal changes from one installment to the next just like Nintendo does? You know the original point of our discussion before u started bringing up off topic points.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

Lmao! This Sebastian guy is much pretty a hater to call Nintendo for doing hardly any changes, also it's ridiculous. Battlefield, COD, pretty much are the same thing. And its rehashed every year. Then you have the ultimate theft of money Madden, this game has been the same since 04'. Then you have nerve to say dont compare Nintendo to other companies because the few releases of titles and their sequels.  Ummm first Mario Kart started on SNES thats 20 plus years and they are only on 8. COD has caught and past that. Battlefield is at 4 already, God of War at 5, Uncharted will be at 4 too. There is only 4 Super Smash, Super Mario Bros 2D platform only released one on th Wii and One on the U. Zelda releases only two on each console. Please Go away

Just because others rehash their games doesn't excuse Nintendo for doing it. Don't tell people to go away because you disagree with them. He had a completely valid complaint.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Its number 2 in global software sales behind a game that is given away for free, hardly a bomb. Have you turned your attention to Donkey Kong because 3D World served you a nice helping of crow.

3D World is far off the other 3D Marios and didn't move consoles. Sorry.

Are you sure? The media was very positive about it and there was a lot of talk about it on the Internet. How do you think the Wii U would have sold last Christmas without that game?

Easy. Galaxy games are iconic, even today, six and a half year later from release. 3D world on the other hand has dissapeared just 4 months after release.

Again, I'm not saying those games are bad. I'm saying those aren't the games the Wii U needed to sell.

Far more people got to play Galaxy since so many people bought into the Wii hype. The Gamecube suffered a somewhat similar fate as the games areen't as fondoly remembered. Galaxy also had the pleasure of being a game on a console that many hardcore gamers thought was a travesty, and being notch better than 3D World (contibuting to even more media loudness). The competition is now on two feet (it wasn't so much back in 2007) which is drawing attention way from NIntendo and towards them.
