I don't know if it can be blamed only on marketing though. For example, look at the Twilight Princess reveal at E3 2004: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VE2Dc1sx71U People went NUTS. When Twilight Princess launched for the Wii, it was a super hit EVERYONE had to get. It was the Super Mario 64 of the launch, the Halo. Then Skyward Sword came and barely anyone cared. It just didn't have near the hype and anticipation Twilight Princess had. I do not think Zelda can ever recapture the hype of Ocarina of Time or Twilight Princess again. Look at Smash Bros. Wii U.... it's just so meh. Brawl, once again, had TONS of hype and people were excited. Smash Bros. Wii U I bet will barely register a blip on the radar. I am not saying these games are bad, they are not, but let's face it Nintendo doesn't have the power it had 4 years ago. Mario is no longer the powerhouse it was. Nintendo REALLY needs to do something fast about this, but I doubt they will. I really hope they do because Nintendo is my favorite game company and it would be a shame to see them just disappear. The GameCube was a failure SALES wise (not profit wise of course) but it had tons of classics but I am not feeling it with the Wii U. I am starting to think it's best for Nintendo to focus soley on handhelds and this is coming from a guy who took his Wii to college instead of the PS3 and 360! |
I expect a similar reaction to TP if Nintendo announces a Zelda game open world, big and with the same art style as the one in my sign. Of course nothing will surpass TP reveal.
SS sales are because art style and Wii Motion Plus.
